Show Scrooge or scrounge? What is it that makes some people want to spoil things for others? For the life of us we just don't understand under-stand how anybody can get enjoyment out of destroying property. How do you get your kicks out of undoing someone's hard labor? Where is the fun in spoiling other people's good efforts? The situation is not new nor is it unique to Milford and Minersville. We are sure that vandalism is almost as prevalent pre-valent or more so in other communities. We're talking, of course, abut bulb snatchers, who seem to relish Christmas purely to snatch bulbs from the Christmas Christ-mas decorations, for the simplistic pleasure of smashing them in the streets and sidewalks. side-walks. The Christmas scene by the Minersville Miners-ville Betterment Club has been vandalized several times. Milford's Community Tree and street decorations have been victimized by bulb snatchers. The last instance, included pulling the harness down and snatching all the red globes. And bulb snatchers don't confine their expertise to public displays. They also wreck havoc on residential displays, to the consternation of home owners. Even to the point that many who used to decorate have given up because of the expense of maintaining the decorations after they've been vandalized. As senseless as this vandalism is -it's extremely expensive to the victim. The victim in the case of public displays is the tax payer. Vandalism of all kinds appalls us. We particularly dislike this bulb snatching that tends to dampen the spirit of the season for everybody. Vandal does not seem a harsh enough word for these culprits. We have searched our vocabulary for another word. Scrooge, scrounge, thief, grinch, or what have you. None seem to correctly categorize the bulb snatcher. We hope those responsible are caught. We urge decent citizens to report any suspicious act to the police. And, we hope every bulb snatcher receives a lump of coal in his Christmas stocking. "Red" |
