Show UJcoflicr station to remain open Word was received last Friday from Mr. Rex Warner, Deputy Director of the National WeatherService Western Regional Headquarters Head-quarters in Salt Lake City, that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has decided not to close the Milford Station. Last January, NOAA announced an-nounced the closure of the Milford Station as part of a $1.7 million cut in the budget. bud-get. They proposed to close eighteen other stations along with Milford. A tremendous response from COUNTY NEWS readers read-ers opposing the closure poured into NOAA headquarters head-quarters and to Congressmen Congress-men and Senators, causing a re -evaluation of the closures. The Milford WeatherStat- tion is very important to local farmers and stockmen, besides being on direct flight routes for commercial airlines air-lines between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, and Denver and Los Angeles. The ' economic saving would have been very small if at all, while its importance to the community and all Southern Utah would have been tremendous. Until further notice the Milford Station will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The notification that the Weather Station will remain open (it was scheduled to close Sept. 30) is ample evidence evi-dence that letters to agencies and representatives do have an impact.
