"; --A V V y - GREY LADIES HONORED: The American Red Cross first started the Grey Ladies 1918 at Walter Reid Hospital. The organization has progressed to many hospitals all over the nation. Grey Ladies have been expecially successful at Milford Valley Memorial. At least 20 hours per week donated time is received from the group who man the registration desk during visiting hours and fix the hair of the permanent residents. Milford's organization was conceived in September 1959 when Ardith Outzen was Milford Chapter Chairman. The first Grey Ladies were presented to the hospital administrator Feb. 4, 1960. They have been a steady, reliable group since that time and the hospital is better because of them. Pictured are Vera Cooper, chairman, Leola Dunham. Cleo Labrum, Mable Turner, Beverly Davis, Sara Myers, Ruby (Bobbie) James, lucile Belliston, Mary Mayer, Verna Tomsik, Rovena Hardy, Vilate Lang, Mina Leppink, and Jo Killam. The community owes a great deal to these ladies in grey. |
