(Phllipplans 2:9-11) This Is the Christmas story more fully; for this end Jesus was born according as the prophets have written. May the truth of the Per- son and purpose of Jesus Christ be manifest unto you by the Holy Spirit in this the holiday season Is our prayer, and that through the knowledge of him you may have the peace of God which passeth all understanding for the keeping of your hearts ., and minds through Jesus Christ our Lord. By Brent Baxter, Pastor First Baptist Church i "But unto the Son he saith, j?? ft Thy throne, O God, is for v?Vf ever and ever: a sceptre of 1 U righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom." (Heb. 1:8) rLa Who was this one born of 1 lt,e a virgin? 91 "And there were in the ?c same country shepherds abiding in the field, keep-JiY keep-JiY ing watch over their flock - by night. And, lo, the an - y4Y5 gel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were sore f afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good St. tidings of great joy, which J shall be to all people. For ' unto you is born this day in the city of David a Sav-tixr Sav-tixr lour, which is Christ the tlH"V 1 Lord. And this shall be a ffS34 sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swad- J j dling clothes, lying in a yS manger. And suddenly there 1 was with the angel a mult- V Itude of the heavenly host - V praising God, and say- F Gl' ' ft ing, Glory to God in the high - . I est, and on earth peace, good 'imd V will toward men. And it came VI to pass, as the angels were D ft gone away from them Into n ft heaven, the shepherds said . I one to another, Let us now g& VI go even unto Bethlehem, and 6 1 see this thing which is come ft to Pss, which the Lord hath ;enu V made known to us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying say-ing which was told them concerning con-cerning this child. And all they that heard It wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds." (Luke 2:18 KJV) Why does the Birth of Jesus Je-sus live on, 1900 years after af-ter the event? Just for the purpose of giving and receiving re-ceiving gifts? Or to stop hating each other once a year to share our love? The reason rea-son his birth lives, is because be-cause Jesus lives. These thoughts I share t with you because at Christmas Christ-mas we look back to the time of his first coming when "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only be-. be-. gotten Son, that whosoever belleveth In him should not perish, but have everlastUig llfe (John 3:16) For which the 'people said unto him shall we do that we mlght work the works of God? jesus answered andsaldunto them, This is the work of rod that ye believe on him Sn he U sent." (John LT29) Then at the end Sediscourseof which they Earned that Jesus was e a nt life "From that world is indeed too willing to leave Jesus a baby, in a manger. The mind can rest after the holiday season of what the birth and first advent of Jesus Christ is all about. When Jesus came the first time He told his apostles about coming back for them. "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, Believe also In me. In my Father's house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also. And where I go ye know, and the way ye know," (John 14:1-4 God said,', "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government govern-ment shall be upon his shoul -der: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Counsel-lor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the prince of Peace. Of the increase in-crease of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish estab-lish it with Judgement and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform per-form this." (Isaiah 9:6-7). Jesus said: "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." (Rev. 22:16) John saw the unveiled glory of Christ In the second sec-ond advent. "And I saw heaven hea-ven open and behold, a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. ' 1 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood; and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies that were in heaven followed fol-lowed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should sm Ite the nations, and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his. vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." (Rev. 19:11-16). It Is the desire of many to "keep Christ In Christmas" Christ-mas" but also many desire to "keep Christ inthemana-ger". inthemana-ger". "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That |
