Statistics prove that shoplifting shop-lifting rises as the numbers of holiday shoppers increase. So does thievery in the rural areas. Outlying areas of Beaver, Iron, Washington and many other counties have suffered at the hands of thieves the last six to eight weeks. The Sheriff's office, including in-cluding the Beaver County Jeep Patrol, has been. cruising cruis-ing the farm area between Milford and Minersville for several weeks. It's all been undercover, so as not to alert the thieves. The patrols have also been unsuccessful, according to Deputy Wally Fotheringham. Local farmers have lost everything from saddles to loads of hay. In one instance, he said, the thieves even borrowed the farmer's pickup pick-up to move the stolen articles. arti-cles. We've got to warn the farmers, he said, before they hit again. They're out there, almost every night, but we just can't catch them. So, the farmer wiU have to try and keep an eye on his own belongings, be-longings, and call us if he notices anyone suspicious in the area or around his place, Fotheringham said. |
