Show EXTEND DEADLINE "ON TOURIST SIGN The Utah Transportation Commission has extended by three months the deadline for the removal of tourist -oriented roadside advertising advertis-ing signs which do not conform con-form with the state's regulations regu-lations regarding outdoor advertising. All non-conformingadver-tlslng signs along state highways high-ways were due to comedown by December 31st. However, signs relating to the tourist Industry will now have until March 31st before they must be removed. The action was taken at the request of the Transportation Transpor-tation and Public Safety Com -mittee of the Utah Legislature. Legisla-ture. The Committee asked the Commission for the additional ad-ditional time so that it could study the pros and cons of amending Utah's Outdoor Advertising Ad-vertising Act to conform with the Federal Highway Act of 1976. The Federal Act includes in-cludes a provision which enables en-ables communities to keep their tourist -oriented signs up, if it is proven that their removal will create an ec-onom ec-onom ic hardship for the com -munity. In each case, however, how-ever, the take-down moratorium mora-torium must be initiated by the state and approved by the Secretary of the U. S. Department of Transportation, Transporta-tion, who will make the decision de-cision based on supportive data supplied by the state. |
