It's the closest deep hole ever drilled that close to the dome fault that is believed to be the source of heat for the Roosevelt Springs geothermal reservoir. It wasn't until after they hit steam, in fact, that they discovered they had a wildcat. wild-cat. And hit steam they did, at 300 feet, 700 feet and 1200 feet. After the last interception, intercep-tion, they discovered they had a wildcat by the tail, and couldn't let go. After deciding to run cas -ing and chalk up another keeper, they found it was no easy task to do. Several roughnecks have received serious burns from the super-heated water. Two crack crews have been imported im-ported to finish the job. But as of press time rig five was still stationary over the well and it was not known when it would be off. |
