Show Most of us in the west, as well as those In the north and northwest, are spoiled when it comes to Christmas trees. . Not only can we go cut our own - If we want - but huge, monsterous trees are available avail-able for relatively small sums by local dealers. -0- Having been born and raised rais-ed in the midwest where all trees were shipped In, we know that not only are nice trees expensive, but it is almost al-most necessary to place your order by Thanksgiving If you want a really beautiful, large tree. -0- We were reminded of this as we cruised Mllford looking look-ing over the beautiful lights and displays. Huge trees, gaily decorated, look out from picture windows in almost al-most every home. Though there are few homes without trees, we didn't find as many outside lights as usual. Elaborate displays were few and far between. The reason Inflation -recession - the energy squeeze - or some other. But at least in the west, no one who really wanted one went without a tree. -0- In our travels we did see two that we feel are worth everybody's effort to see. Don't miss Dan Baudino's whirling Christmas tree. And don't wait too long, It may take off. One of the cutest we've seen anyplace is Mel Bradshaw's snowman on North Main. Both are well worth the effort. -0- Been bird -watching again. Good neighbor Barbara, after aft-er reading last week's column, col-umn, discovered where our vain sparrows go when we don't have a vehicle In the drive. Poor Connie. She'd like to wash the paint off her little 'bug' anyway. -0- We do enjoy bird -watching though, even if we kind of have to do It on the run. Last Thursday on the way to Mlnersville, Mln-ersville, we spotted our national na-tional emblem - a beautiful Bald Eagle - high in the top of one of Richard Jefferson's big trees. At this time of the year they're quite plentiful, and the beautiful things are worth a Sunday drive to see. Yes, even at today's gasoline prices. Once last winter we spotted spot-ted three In one tree. It's not at all unusual to see that many Golden Eagles - and they are In the area year 'round. -0- Besides Eagles and abundant abund-ant Christmas trees, there are many other things that we have to be thankful for, In Mllford and Beaver County. It's these things we'll be thinking most about Christmas Christ-mas Day. A whale of a ballgame Saturday night. The Tigers controlled a not -too -shabby Delta team with 15 points to spare. The Kanab Cowboys downed the Piute Thunder -birds Friday and that puts the Tigers all alone In 1st place In the Region. But Coach Nielsen's Tigers Tig-ers won't get a chance to relax. re-lax. Friday they must face the T-blrds, then Millard on Monday on the Eagles' home floor, for a little more bird watching before they come head to head with the Cowboys Cow-boys again. And while the Mllford bunch handled Kanab quite handily In their first outing, the Cowboys have shaken off the shoulder pads, and are no longer reading their state champion football press clippings, and are top region contenders, having lost only the first game to the Tigers. Now's a good time to mark your basketball schedule. Inadvertently, In-advertently, the January 3 game with Parowan at Mil-ford Mil-ford was left off of both the small and large schedule. So If the Tigers can get through the holidays with a little bird-watching, avoid getting butted by the Rams or eaten by the Wolves, and bulldogged by the Cowboys, they'll be over the toughest part of the schedule - until Colby Leavitt and the Red-men Red-men come to town. |
