Show Whew! The last couple of months have been like a roller coaster ride, building build-ing mementum with each new curve. What with the Earth Science Inc. prospectus, Geothermal, shooting, drugs, fires, and other stories of significance, bordering bor-dering on the sensational, ye ol' Ed has been hard put to do an adequate job of covering the routine happenings. happen-ings. -0- The July 24th celebration, traditionally one of our big stories, was nearly crowded off of the front page last week. Since the 24th fell on Wednesday Wed-nesday this year, our normal press day, this week's issue was printed on Tuesday, though most won't receive it until Thursday or later, due to the Post Office closing. Pictures of the 24th Pioneer Day Parade will appear ap-pear in the next issue. -0- The Lion's Annual Race Meet falls the weekend of August 2 and 3. Everything is being worked on to bring about another successful Milford Lions race meet, by chairman Max Price and his race meet committee. The same weekend Hon Marion Walker's crew will hold chuck wagon breakfasts at the Lions Club Car each morning. He'll get an assist from Lion Gale flipping hot-cakes hot-cakes and yours truly on the ham and eggs. -0- I Tied in with the race meet j and chuck wagon breakfast, will be a gigantic city -wide savings spree on Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 n6on as Milford Businesses Busines-ses move big bargains right out on the street with a huge sidewalk sale. Fantastic bargins will be available from local merchants mer-chants both in and out of the store.- The past couple of week's hectic pace has been made even more hectic for the News staff, due to equipment equip-ment breakdowns which forced many more hours on i already weary bodies. A mad dash to Salt Lake City last Thursday, put I everything back in shape (we 1 hope). -0- While in the big city, with time on our hands-the Wilson family took in Lagoon. It was our first opportunity. Two hours was not near enough time for the kids, but , plenty for dad and mom who faced the long drive home after a straight ration of 20 ; hour days for much too long. I Besides, the anticipation of their first roller coaster i ride will make the next time even better. 0- We did get the machines , fixed and home without mishap. mis-hap. Couldn't help noticing the prevailing speed limits however. No, not the posted limits, but those being used. Our observations showed that the closer to the big city, the faster the speed. Also, the more congested the traffic, traf-fic, the faster the speed. -0- We were heartened when long time residents told us ! that the Mineral Range burn of three weeks ago would replenish itself better than ever in a, couple of years. ' "All that's needed," we were told, "is, seed and , rain." Now it seems, there is some question of where the seed is going to come from -and who will have to pay for it. On top of that, the rains came too soon -or too much. i The top soil In the burned ' area, with nothing to hold it back, came down the moun- ! tain. Besides innundating the roads In the area-it will take alot longer than two years to replace it. -0- Lots of tourists in town -many are rock hunters, looking look-ing for McDonald Opal. Many Just want to know where to j look on their own. Give them directions. The money they spend - can be yours! |
