Show WILL BENEFIT FROM OUR MISTAKES Millard County Commissioners are being bombarded with requests for zoning changes on 1-15, since the recent re-cent refusal of Pine Creek by the Beaver County Commissioners. Com-missioners. We read with great interest the comments of Editor Bill Wilson at Fillmore when he editcrally commented com-mented on the rezoning, quote: In commenting on rezoning on the north and south of Millard County he said: "It may be a case of 'damned if you don't, and damned if you do.' But there must be some merit in it if other counties have made these changes." "It's like the story of the two duck hunters, one with decoys and one without. The one with decoys came home with the bag limit." "It may be necessary to have something out at the interchanges to lure the traveling public off, besides a sign that says Fillmore, Meadow or Kanosh. At 70 miles an hour, such a sin is difficult to see and stop in time. On the other hand, huge well-lighted signs calling attention atten-tion to immediate services are difficult to overlook." "We wonder, too, if the highway oriented business slump that Beaver reports because of the Freeway bypass might not be because of their refusal to let motels, service ser-vice stations, etc. build on the interchanges." In another story in the same issue, Bill expounds on a definitive case history of towns along the 1-15 route, and the effect 1-15 had on the communities. Those who opened zoning to highway services early suffered no setbacks, according ac-cording to the story. Millard County will undoubtedly capitalize on Beaver Beav-er County's reluctance to open Pine Creek. Fillmore is not yet bypassed their zoning will not be too late. Red. |
