Show Lincoln Downed 28-8 In Tigers Best Effort; Panguitch Homecoming Foe Lincoln County ran up against the Tiger Gridiron Machine and met its match. A machine is great, when it comes to grinding out yardage, yard-age, the Tigers gathered up 141 Passing and 311 Rushing for a total offense of 452 yards. Lincoln County managed only 17 on the ground and 77 in the air for a total of 94 yards. They made those 94 yards count dearly though, scoring three touchdowns. Lincoln's touchdowns came on judgment plays, and this is the most difficult thing to teach a machine, though we believe Coach Payne to be equal to the task. Two were on long pass plays, and the Milford safety went for the interception and missed, and the other was on a punt that slipped through the fingers of Richard Smith and was picked up by a Lincoln County player play-er who scampered across for the TD. But that's all the bad news of last Friday night's thriller, which made the Tigers look great on offense, the best this year, using power plays, pass plays and end sweeps, mixing the option and gambling on the down and 16 to go and making it work. There were far too many standouts to mention them all but on defense Wain Mecham and Richard Easton must be mentioned for their work at right tackle, picking up 19 tackles between them, trading off on the position. Robert Edwards Ed-wards turned in his best game at quarterback and Cook and Albrecht turned in their usual outstanding performances as running backs. Edwards turned in his first running performance, running an end sweep with beautiful blcking by the whole team for 80 yards in the first quarter, quar-ter, and another TD on shorter MILFORD BUCKS PICK UP AS WORTH IS RECOGNIZED Milford Shoppers are beginning begin-ning to ask for their Miflord Bucks when they shop, recognizing recog-nizing the total saving on their c'.illars spent in Milford. Lincoln then let go with its first long bomb that gave them a first down on the Milford 3 and on the 3rd play they scored, scor-ed, ending the half at 14-6 The Tigers picked up 100 yards in penalties the first half, but probably because of something the coach said, they managed to keep it down to 20 in the snond, for a total of 120 yar.'s loss on penalties. The Lincoln County Team did not have one single yard marched off against, mainly because the Tiger defense kept them in the hole most of the game. In the thrid quarter, the Tigers Tig-ers gave Lincoln some of their own medicine, with Edwards tossing 30 yards to Smith, who ran away from the defenders for a TD. The PAT was no good and score 20-8. The Tigers kicked off, but were unable to move the ball and were forced to punt. Smith fumbled the catch and Lincoln recovered the ball and scrambled scram-bled 10 yards for their second TD. Lincoln then tried an off-sidekick, off-sidekick, but Milford controlled the ball, and with Cook and Albrecht running with power, the Tigers moved downfield. Cook carried the ball over for another TD and the score was 28-12. The fourth quarter was back and forth until Milford fumbled fum-bled the ball and Lincoln recovered. re-covered. They threw another long pass to their speedy end and he scampered into the end zone. Score 28-18, and that was the way the game ended. |
