Show Hiway 50 Group Offers Aid in Routing Traffic Thru Milford At a meeting held Wednesday evening in the High School Auditorium, plans were outlined for a program designed to increase traffic through the Milford area. Doyle L. Davidson, executive vice president of the National Highway 50 Federation, told the group that his organization was vitally interested in working with the Milford community in getting more travelers West O" Utah 21 back to U S Highway 50 in the vicinity of the Utah-Nevada state line, and on to Ely, Lake Tahoe, and ban Francisco. Mr. Davidson said that this is most important for future planning since Interstate Inter-state Highway 70 is presently pres-ently designed to end at , Cove 'V.Fort... West - bound traffic will have a tendency at this point to turn south on Interstate Highway 15 and it is felt that much traffic wanting to go to the West Coast through Nevada will continue on South toward Las Vegas unless means are taken to direct these people back to U S 50. Highway Utah 21 provides one of these connecting routes that westbound travelers trav-elers can use to get back on U S 50 Westbound. Mr. Davidson pointed out that tourism is an Industry. Figures show that if any community com-munity can get 25 people staying stay-ing overnight in that community commun-ity every night of the year, that the spending of tourist dollars will be equivalent to an industrial payroll of $125,-000. $125,-000. He also pointed out that present figures show that over four million tourists are coming com-ing to Utah each year by auto and that they are spending in excess of $i20,000,000. Mr. Davidson lives in Colorado Colo-rado and travels the entire length of U S 50 coast to coast, promoting more travel over the route that traverses 12 states. He further said that he would give assistance to the Milford community In the distribution of their own community brochures, published pub-lished by the Milford Lions Club, and that he would show the film, "Color Country," Coun-try," to various groups across the United States that are Interested in travel. The National Highway 50 Federation is making plans to request that Interstate 70 be continued on west to Sacra-menta, Sacra-menta, rather than end at Cove Fort. As far as timing is concerned, con-cerned, this is something that in all probability will not be considered until after 1972 because be-cause this is the date set for the completion of the present interstate system and no new mileage can be added until the present system is entirely completed. The new brochures recently printed by the National High- x way 50 Federation carry a listing list-ing for Milford in relation to the Fishlake National Forest, |
