Show EMERGENCY DROUTH PROGRAM SPEEDS UP LAND CONSERVATION Sept. 15 was the deadline for completing conservation practices under the 1964 Emergency Emer-gency Drought Program. Fourteen Four-teen of the 17 projects approved ap-proved for cost-sharing under this program in Beaver County have been completed. A total of seven miles of concrete ditch and plastic irrigation pipe . were installed. This amount" of lining enables the users to deliver the water to the field faster and with considerably less seepage and evaporation loss. The Emergency Drought program pro-gram was developed and carried car-ried out by the U S Department Depart-ment of Agriculture. The $25,-349.22 $25,-349.22 spent in Beaver County in cost sharing water conservation conserva-tion practices was administered by the Beaver County A S C Committee, Bob Nowers, chairman. chair-man. Technical assistance was furnished through the Twin-M and Beaver Soil Conservation Districts. The Manderfield Irrigation Co. installed 13,938 lineal feet of concrete ditch capable of carrying 10 cubic feet of water per second. The contractor on this job was Chester Parry of Cedar City, who made the low bid of $1.20 per lineal foot. The irrigation company installed the needed structures thena-.. selves. Total cost of the pro- pect was about $20,000, of which $9,836.14 was supplied by cost-sharing under the Emergency Drought program. A no-interest loan of $7,000 was obtained from the Utah Water and Power Board. The irrigation company made up the difference in labor and cash. The following amounts of ditch lining were applied on the respective individual farms: Paul J. Smith, 1775 lineal feet; Mayer Bros., 2185 l.f.; Russel Mayer, 1463 l.f.; James Mayer, 655 l.f.; C. R. Wiseman, 2397 l.f.; Jerry Mayer, 978 l.f.; Green Diamond Ranch, 2328 lineal feet; Don Jones, 3090 l.f.; H. L. Tolley, 1275 l.f.; McBride, 1353 l.f.; S. W. Nichols, 640 l.f.; Leland Sullivan, 1952 l.f.; Leo Mayer, 1159 l.f. plastic irrigation pipe; H. L. Tolley, 1800 l.f. plastic plas-tic irrigation pipe. |
