Show DON MARSHALL DIES IN TWO-TRUCK COIUSION IN MILLARD COUNTY Don Marshall, 29, Cedar City, former Minersville resident, died Tuesday morning neat Holden in a two-truck collision. colli-sion. The accident occurred about midnight Monday when the truck Marshall was driving crashed into the rear of another an-other truck parked on the highway making a tire repair. The semi-truck which Marshall Mar-shall was driving was completely com-pletely demolished. He survived sur-vived for nearly 2 hours before be-fore succumbing. John Gerald Fastje of Salt Lake, driver of the parked semi-truck, was knocked unconscious but suffered suf-fered no serious injury. Investigating the accident was Trooper Gayle Rasmussen of Fillmore, who said that Mr. Fastje stated that his truck had blown a tire and that he had stopped to make repairs. A relief driver, ' Elmer Brown, also of Salt Lake, had gone to Fillmore for additional tools and Fastje was in the truck awaiting his return. Wreckage from the collision was thrown over a wide area and traffic on U S Highway 91, where the accident occurred, ' was halted until a detour could be established through a field. Summoned to assist in the accident ac-cident was the Millard County Jeep Posse and also the Fillmore Fill-more Fire Department, owing to the debris and large amount of gasoline released on the pavement. Marshall was well known for his athletic abilities. While attending the CSU he participated partici-pated in the National Junior Collegiate Assn basketball tournament tour-nament in Hutchinson, Kansas, ' and was named to the Junior College AU-American term. In addition he was named to the All - Church basketball team while playing for the Cedar Sixth Ward. Since graduating from college col-lege he and his family have made their home in Cedar City, where he has been employed em-ployed by Milne Truck Lines. He was born Feb.. 12, 1932, in Minersville, to Newel and Theo Davis Marshall. He married Vie Louise Black May 31, 1951, in the St. George LDS Temple. He is survived by his widow, ' three children, a son, Roger Don, and daughters Margery and Pamela, all of Cedar City; his parents, and the following brothers and sisters: Tex, Kim and Sherry Marshall, Minersville; Miners-ville; Mrs. Val Gene (Elinor) Beeson and Mrs. Karl (Stan-nie) (Stan-nie) Myers, Beaver; Gary G. (Joe), of Milford, and Mrs. Clifford (Nancy) Yardley, of Vernal. A grandfather, George Marshall of Minersville, also survives. Funeral services were scheduled sched-uled for 2 p. m. Thursday in Minersville. |
