American Legion service officers offi-cers have been notified by the VA that a training program for disabled World War II veterans that ended in July has been . brought back to life for another j five years. I Those who will benefit from this program are the veterass most of whom have serious disabilities dis-abilities who were in training under Public Law 16 when the -provisions of the law expired on July 25. A new law permits virtually, vir-tually, all of them those who were in training on June 1 to resume their courses at, government govern-ment expense. Also, the law establishes a new deadline of July 25, 1965. ; The vocational training program pro-gram for most disabled World War II veterans ended four years ago. But a special four-year extension ex-tension was granted in certain exceptional cases mainly veterans veter-ans so badly disabled they could not possibly have come in under the original deadline. It is this four-year extension that expired on July 25 and to which five more years have been added by the new law. The new law also keeps the doors of the vocational training program open to disabled World War II exceptional cases as follows: fol-lows: 1. World War II veterans whose disabilities prevented them from entering or completing training prior to the program's original deadlines. 2. Those who originally received re-ceived discharges barring them from training, but whose discharges dis-charges later were changed but too late to get in under the original orig-inal deadlines. 3. Those for whom a service-connected service-connected disability was not established es-tablished in time to begin and complete a course of training. The VA emphasizes that this new law does not affect a separate sep-arate training program for Ko-' rean War disabled veterans. ! |
