Show Services Held Wednesday For Jennie Mathews Mrs. Sarah Jennie Smith Mathews, Math-ews, 95, died Monday at a St. George rest home of causes incident inci-dent to age. Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Jen-nie Mathews were held Dec. 14 in the Beaver First-Third Ward LDS Chapel. Jim Morgan was in charge of the program, which was as follows: Invocation, Sheldon Roberts. Song, "In the Garden" Mrs. Ireta Baker and Mrs. Anona Swindlehurst, accompanied by Mrs. Carol Kesler. Tribute to Mrs. Mathews, Mrs. Elfreda Gurr. Remarks, Taylor Farnsworth. Solo, "Softly and Tenderly," Mrs. Ireta Baker, accompanied by Mrs. Kesler. Remarks, Milton Gentry. Duet, "Resting Now from Care and Sorrow," Mrs. Swindlehurst and Mrs. Baker. Benediction, Jule Gillins. The grave in Mountain View Cemetery was dedicated by Joe C. Thompson of Salt Lake. Pallbearers were Bert Swindlehurst, Swindle-hurst, McKay Farrer, Neil Neil-son, Neil-son, Morrell Warr, Joe Thompson and Arnold Gurr. Flowers were handled by relatives. Out of county relatives attending attend-ing included Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Gurr of St. George, Mrs. Agnes Arns of Cedar City; Arnold Gurr, Grayson Gurr and Heber Gurr of Parowan; Paul Schaefer and Bernard Ber-nard McCann of Leamington. She was born Oct. 18, 1865, at Waverly, Iowa, to Hyrum S. and Ruth Amelia Raymond Smith. She married Asa D. Thompson July 14, 1883, in Decatur, Neb. They were later divorced. She married William Mathews in Beaver. He died in 1947. She had lived in St. George for I 13 years. She was a member of I the LDS Church, j Surviving are six grandchil- dren, 20 great-grandchildren, and J six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Addie Graves of Stockton, Calif. |
