Show Kennecott Copper Head Named Chairman For Heart Fund Charles R. Cox, president of Kennecott Ken-necott Copper Corporation, one of the world's largest copper producers, produc-ers, has been named national chairman chair-man for the 1960 Heart Fund drive, which will be conducted next February, it is announced by Dr. Merrill C. Daines, president of the Utah Heart Association. In accepting the top leadership role in the Heart Fund campaign, Mr. Cox pointed out that "diseases of the heart and blood vessels are the nation's number one health enemy because they take more lives annually than all other causes caus-es of death combined." He added, "The enthusiastic response of volunteers vol-unteers this year is clear testimony to the public's awareness that the Heart Fund is the nation's first line of defense against these diseases." Early reports indicate that a record rec-ord number of volunteers will participate par-ticipate in the month-long 1960 Heart Fund campaign and the Heart Sunday door-to-door collection collec-tion on February 28, which climaxes cli-maxes the drive. "More than 1,500,000 volunteers called on their neighbors throughout through-out the nation last February in the Heart Sunday collection," Mr. Cox said. "It appears at this time that we shall exceed this figure by many thousands on oui next Heart Sunday." Sun-day." The annual Heart Fund drive is conducted by the American Heart Association and its affiliates and chapters to support programs of both basic and applied research, public and professional education, and community services for heart patients. Mr. Cox, who served as vice chairman of the 1959 Heart Fund Campaign, is a director and a member mem-ber of the executive committee of Kennecott Copper Corporation, as well as president. Prior to 1950, when he assumed his present duties, he was president of the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation, Corpora-tion, the then largest subsidiary of the United States Steel Corporation. Corpora-tion. . Mr. Cox also is president of United Unit-ed States Copper Association, vice president of Copper Institute and director of American Mining Congress. Con-gress. He is a trustee of New York University, and of National Safety Council. His other memberships include American Iron and Steel Institute, Business Advisory Council Coun-cil for the United States Department Depart-ment of Commerce, National Industrial In-dustrial Conference Board, and Council on Foreign Relations. |
