Phone 3060 PUBLIC SERVICE EAU OFFICERS ELECTED VACANCIES FILLED BY BOARD OF CONTROL The resignation of Mr. Charles Lin-ford, who was last spring elected president of the Public Service bureau, necessitated the electing of a Few president. This task rightfully fell to the Board of Control, which showed its good judgment in the selection of the new officers. Miss Mary Campbell, who was last year elected vice president, was chosen as president. Her record as a student speaks well for the future success of the Public Service bureau. During her Sophomore year she was vice president of her class and proved to be an energetic worker and natural leader. Since that time she has represented her class in intellectual contests. The board chose Mr. Darrah Van Dyke as vice president. Here the statement, "Good things sometimes seme in small packages," is positively correct. Mr. Van Dyke has shown as a debator and hard worker that he possesses the ability and energy to fulfill this office. The secretary, Mr. Lowell Ridges, is the only officer to retain his original office. The student body approved of his ability when it honored him with this office. With the organization complete, the rublic Service bureau can be expected to, and is going to give, "some service."GIRLS' FUN FEST BIG AFFAIR (Continued from Page 1.) Saturday morning Mrs. Savage ordered a new rolling pin. "Lou" Roberts and a representative of the Herald, both visitors under protest, were introduced to the court. They entertained the court with a reproduction of the Hula Hula act, and were permitted to mingle in the crowd unmolested. The entire audience went to the social roof where pictures for the "Acorn" were taken, and then returned to the hall to dance. All present were attired in costumes which varied from angels to baseball players. Prof. Pardoe's wife wore a full dress suit, red mustache pnd red wig, and Mrs. Jos. Ballantyne al tired as an aged woman, were mirth makers throughout the evening. From every standpoint the affair was a success and praise is due the girls for their work. We suggest that the affair, with additions, be presented again and the entire student body invited to attend. BRIEF MENTION Not because we don't know the news, but we believe the less that is raid about a disagreeable matter the sooner it blows over. The Sophomore class held a matinee Wednesday, Oct. 17. Thatcher's orchestra and a large crowd made the affair a success. Bishop John Watson of the school ooard and Prof. Jensen of the faculty, appeared in the "Lust of the Ages," shown at the Alhambra some time ago. Fran. Wheelwright and Carl Frorer successfully passed the "exams" of the quartermaster's division and are now stationed somewhere on the Atlantic coast. Cyril (Cy) Brown is recovering from an attack of typhoid. He expects to enter school at mid-year. Browning Bros, put in an excellent Weber window display last week. Weber pennants, caps and sweaters were the features. A rumor comes to the staff that Miss Myrtle. Cantwell and Walter Read, both former students, are engaged. The report came too late to be confirmed.The. student body of the B. Y. C. at Logan invested in a $500 Liberty bond. Mary Woolley and Vera Hinckley made their debut as soloists at North Ogden Oct. 10. Ernest Shreeves was over to school .ast week. He is around in a wheelchair. Theron Jones is his nurse maid until he gets on crutches. A choir of the glee club should be organized immediately. Our choir was late in starting last year, which resulted almost seriously for our Commencement exercises. Two more weeks and no material advancement toward a stage. Little action, please. Prof. Kasius staged a boxing match October 23 during the fourth period in the study hall, Elwood Barker and John Croft participating. Barker scored a knockout at the end of the second round and was awarded the decision.Miss Jepperson, of the musical faculty, will organize a ladies' glee club this week. Forty talented voices of the city will comprise the personnel of the club. A concert will be given in Weber soon. The student body and faculty of the L. D. S. U. are to be commended on their splendid showing in the second Liberty loan campaign. The faculty and student body, consisting of some 1400 members, subscribed a little over 5,28, OOD to Liberty bonds. On the evening of Oct. 22, the Junior class under the direction of Prof. McKay, held a bonfire party at the mouth of Taylor canyon. Wienies and marshmallows comprised the "eats." Flash light pictures were taken for the "Acorn." A few of the boys continued on to Observatory peak. The Worm Turned. Corporal (instructing the awkward squad in rifle practice) "I told you to take a fine sight, you dub; don't you know what a fine sight is?" Rookie "Sure! A boat full of corporals sinking." Ex. Roundabout Conclusion. "It's an extended corridor that has no ultimate determination," mused Prof. Lind, as he plodded around the revolving doorway. o ENSIGN HERRICK Manufacturing Optician EYES TESTED 352 24th Slreet ROYAL BARBER SHOP Five Chairs, Two Baths, Shining Parlor and Up-to-Date, All Around Barber Shop.
