Operation Move Now Underway It's "Operation Move" this week, and for that matter last week and several more to come, on Weber campus. Various departments are shifting desks, books, equipment and what have you, to the new campus. Trucks have been supplied, but teachers and students in some cases have been pitching in. The big shift got underway officially May 24 when band and choral departments started going. Last day, according to the present schedule at least, will be Sept. 1-4 for the foods, clothing and nursery departments. Even later moves will be made after Sept. 4 in time for the beginning of the 1954-55 term the latter part of September. Kathryn Jensen New Whip Pres. Highlighting the Whip Club Banquet was the announcement of officers by this year's president, Marian Rhees. . Kathryn Jensen was named president with Claire Billings as her vice president. Janet Stallings secretary; Carol Smith, treasurer; Barbara Rasmussen, historian; and Barbara Hone, reporter; were voted in as the other new officers. SEZ WHO! P3 New SB Chiefs Eye Problems By NANCY SANDERS As the college will be faced with some rather serious problems during the coming year, your reporter asked the new student body officers their opinions concerning those problems which will be most difficult. Nelson Wright "I think the biggest problem next year will be to cultivate and maintain a school spirit which will be distinctive of the new campus. This can only be accomplished by pro per correla tion of the stu- I dents at both of . ' the campuses. We are also go- s Ing to be faced with transporta-t i o n problems concerning the getting back and forth between the split campus." Sharon Slater "I really don't know. I suppose the most impor-t a n t problem would be moving to the new campus. We can do OK next year if the student body shows the same interest and support they have displayed this year.." Lu Wanna Harris "I think getting the kids to the assemblies will be one of the most important problems next year because a split campus will make it difficult -nm, for everyone to t ,, attend School '-C-v spirit constitutes another big problem for the coming year." Dale Gustave-son "My biggest problem will be keeping Nelson Wright from walking in his sleep. The next biggest is trying to keep from em-bezzeling student body funds and using them on Joanie Shaum." Ray Cumminirs "The split campus poses the biggest problem to my way of thinking. Solving the transporta t i o n problem comes next, and then the fight f o r a four-year school. The past school year has been a year filled with fun and opportunity experience. We have seen the revival of the Mardi Gras, the revival of the "Acorn", the instigation of the Songfest; as well as the continuance of the regular and traditional activities of the college. The higher caliber of the "Signpost" is also a credit to the present school year. We experienced the near "selling down the river" of our Weber College. The democratic action taken by citizens of Ogden in their successful attempt to bring the issue to the people of Utah for their approval or disapproval has been an insight to me of the value of Weber College and the value of the democratic way of life which we possess. All these things have contributed to the development and success of Weber College. As this year comes to a close, I want to thank the students of Weber for the splendid support they have shown me and the other student officers. If they continue to show the same support and enthusiasm with the student officers of next year, Weber will have the greatest year in its history. Thank you again, and keep up the good work. ' Sincerely, Gordon Clawson, Student Business Mgr. Dear Editor: It has been a wonderful year, and as a student officer, I felt that I didn't want to leave Weber without expressing my sincere appreciation to our student body for making it a wonderful year. I hate to leave Weber. These two years have been the happiest of my life, and I know I will always remember them. This year will especially stand out in my memory. While serving Weber, 1 felt that I had the complete support of the students and faculty. I know that if they will give next year's student officers the same support, they will keep Weber on top where she belongs. Thank you very much students and faculty of W.C.! JIM WHEELER Presidents Message As this unique year of 1953-54 draws to a close and we all prepare to go our separate ways, we feel we must express farewells and thanks to a student body that we have been proud to lead and to represent. Any desire we have had to make a better school has been realized only by your willingness to help and to forge ahead. To you graduating sophomores, may we say that you have just finished some of the most important years of your lives. You have ceased to be boys and girls and have learned what it means to be men and women. ' Your responsibilities are mounting and you will be carrying the world on your shoulders. To you freshmen, who I hope will return 'to graduate from Weber next year, we express envy of your good fortune in being the first class on the new campus, a distinction which we had hoped to possess. You will be able to establish traditions which may last for years. But a word of admonition: Of all things, remain unified throughout the difficulties Weber will face during election time. Nothing could be more disastrous to the school itself than a divided student body. And finally, a personal, humble thanks to everyone who has helped to make our years at Weber and our administration of the past year successful and happy. We leave behind us many friends, students and faculty alike, whom we will always remember and always be happy to meet again. John. Elzey, Pres.
