Show Page 4 SIGNPOST October 5, 1951 Weber Wildcats Dump Favored Modesto Upset Gives Underdogs Three Wins Milt Mecham's Weber college Wildcats slashed their way to an upset victory over Modesto, California junior college, 20 to 12, Saturday, September 28 before 1500 fans at Ogden City stadium. The Weberites reeled off the first touchdown of the game in the second quarter as Roger Hall on an off-tackle play scored from the two-yard line. Don Shaw's conversion made it 7 to 0. Modesto came back in the same Intramurals To Get Underway Oct. 8 Intramurals on the Weber campus will get underway October 8, with the beginning of the touch football and fall tennis tournamentsAlpha Rho, Sigma, Phoenix, Excelsior, A.M.S. and Skull are slated to enter two teams each in the football race, a single elimination affair that will be played in two halves with the first and second half winners meeting for the championship. Each club will be represented in the fall tennis tournaments by two singles and one doubles. Fall activities will be rounded out with ping pong, scheduled to start October 29 and volley ball, starting November 12. Phoenix, champions are back with another strong squad and Alpha Rho Omega is steaming in with a team that will be hard to beat. The fall schedule is: Touch football and fall tennis entries open Oct. 1, closes Oct. 5. Tournament begins Oct. 8. Ping pong: Eentries open Oct. 22, close Oct 26. Tournament begins Oct. 29. Volley Ball: Entries open Nov. 5, close Nov. 8. Tournament begins Nov. 12. Alpha Rho Smoker Slated for Nov. 5 Announcement was made today that on 5th of November, Alpha Rho Omega will present their annual slug fest and all college students are invited to participate. Members of all Weber college social clubs are asked to have a delegation to represent their club. Arrangements are underway to hold this mayhem carnival at the Berthana Ballroom, well known local califlower palace of Boxing and Wrestling. An outstanding local fighter will referee most of the bouts. J Students are now polishing brass knuckles, and local Golden. Glove stars are hiring body guards to escort them to and from training routines at Weber Central Gym. Weber Takes to Air Hall, whose passing sparked the Wildcats throughout the game, shot a twenty-six yarder to Gordon Peterson later in the same period. Peterson ran an additional 15 yards for Weber's second touchdown Weber right half Mark Ballif snagged a Modesto lateral out of the air with less than a minute left in the first half and raced 52 yards for Weber's final score. The last half belonged to the Californians as they- scored one touchdown and generally outplayed the local team according to the yardage record. The visitor's score came right after the rest period as Robert Doe shot into the end zone from the five-yard line. Modesto collected 88 yards from the scrimmage and 28 via the air. Weber could gain only 36 from scrimmage. Another 53 yards were lost to the Weber machine by the fast-rushing Modesto line who pounced on the ball carriers before they could pass. The Pirates were hampered by a loss of ninety-five yards by penel-ization, whereas Weber lost only twenty. Prior to the game, the Weberites were underdogs by two touchdowns. Both teams boast of an undefeated season so far. This is the second meeting of these two teams. The first was in the Silver King Bowl at Visalia last year, where the Californians won by 19 to 13 and Weber plans to even up the series tonight. The "Giants" have provided themselves with a new coach this season in the form of Roy Taylor, former Fresno State football great. Duck Season Opens at Noon, October 12, 1951 Utah's waterfowl season opens4.A next Friday at noon and lasts through December 10. Daily hours for hunting are 6:07 to 4:51 p. m. onthe second day. The days shorten until on December 10th, the shooting begins at 7:11 a. m. and ends at 4:01 p. m. A complete rundown of hunting hours can be obtained from local sporting stores and the wildlife office in the City and County building. Bag Limits Hunters will be allowed to take six ducks as their bag limit with the possession limit the same as the daily bag limit. Only two geese (snow or Canadian) can be taken. special provision deals with Ross' Gees (limit six) and brant (limit three). However, if a limit of one species is bagged, that's all you are allowed. A combination bag of one goose and two brant is legal. Game Laws Are Federal All laws pertinent to waterfowl hunting are federal laws and violation penalties can be very severe. Shooting before or after hours, exceeding limits or killing protected birds may mean confiscation of guns, equipment and license and a fine of over a hundred dollars.
