Norm F. says that all you have to do to have a bosom pal is to say "hi, kid" so they went to class. The girls up there are alright too (what do you mean too?) They wanted to know if Bob Peterson and "Pot" Bramwell were the Whip club's mascots! Were they embarrassed! But the fellows made up for it on the way home. And what fellow wouldn't with eight wimmen apiece. Can't you .iust see those twenty girls from Weber crying the first night up there because they were homesick! Mother . . . But somehow that .iust doesn't sound right. It's a funny thing what people won't pick up around Valentine's day. For instance, the strangest little papers were going around. Phoenix men are to subtle! "I shot an arrow into the air, etc." This is quoting cupid of course. The targets seem to be Rama and Lenny: Ted and Leah, Bob V. and Evelyn, Kay and Noble, Bob Pell for Carol Smith, Kay B. and Jim Maher. Just ask Miss Stewart to tell you about the "big guys" in Idaho. And can they swing a wicked hip. When three Whip girls got together were they mad! "Smiley" (a Ricksite) had told them all the same line. Now all three of them are very definite man haters. He sure was cute, too. It seems Weber has its first morality case or was it just "Petty" prejudice? Washington's Birthday Wednesday the students of Weber college enjoyed a day of freedom a day in which to relax and refresh themselves. Perhaps a few over-refreshed and could use an extra day in recovering. And then, too, there is always a small group that has been relaxing a little too much during the quarter and need an extra day to catch up. So the students were really entitled to a day off, even though most of them failed to waste the holiday in making up work. The honor of celebrating Washington's birthday was extended to all schools even the A. C. at Logan. But we are wondering how Logan manages to get time out for both Lincoln's and Washington's birthday. We don't like the looks of things! (Continued from Page 1) spaces. Preposterous as it sounds, Theodore covered but one major catastrophe during his entire newspaper profession. His adventure was wrought of the flimsy stuff of dreams. He lived but in imagination, this moody , eccentric youth born of a father who was a hybrid of religious fanaticism and paternal solicitude, and a mother who loved fables and fairies. He bought himself an enormous sombrero to go wooing, and a long military coat which made him look as gaunt as a clothes pole. By fashioning a tale of opulence, he convinced his relatives that he was a miniature Croesus, and placed a severe strain on his lean pocket book by prolonging the illusion. But he grew weary of frittering away effort, of flipping off juicy scraps of scandal, of writing politics, foreign entanglements, pompous officials, trivialities yhich were soon eclipsed by the rush of time. He had too much soul merely to be a newspaper reporter; so he tore himself away from the grasp of materialism and resolved to become a novelist. As he roamed through the maze of Chicago streets, he caught candid glimpses of life, raw and bleeding. He saw derelicts cringing amid rot and filth, waifs whimpering from cold and hunger, rascals wallowing in dissoluteness drunken brawls, prostitution. All this was intensified because he, himself, knew the cramping exigencies of poverty and precarious domestic circumstance. In his books he exposed this pathetic nakedness. Immediately he was scorned, dirided. Be cause he slashed off the last traces of cloying sentiment and idealism, because he violated the sanctity of prim moralists, his books were branded as obscene. It took a Hurculean effort to ignore this disapproval. But Dreiser was not crushed. Today, though gruff and cynical, he is regarded as one of America's foremost literary prodigies. He towers above his contemporaries like a giant pine among scrub oak. - .-. - v;.:.v.w -3 Vvcp if Weber Club Girls Go to Rexburgh The Weber Whip club departed for Rexburgh, Idaho Thursday morning, February 16, to attend the Weber-Rexburgh game. But what could be more appropriate in the spring than a masked costume ball? There you can dance with your fairy prince, or princess (as the case may be) and not even know its the student who sits next to you in your ten o'clock class. The fellow will have an opportunity to treat his (Fairy Princess) to candy, donuts and punch, popsicles and etc., at any one of a dozen colorful decorated booths. Imagine serpentine hanging from the rafter; the floor and all the dancers covered with confetti, brilliantly colored spot lights playing on the booths, laughter of 600 costumed merry-makers ringing through the fresh spring air. Let's not forget that darkened corner where you can sit and sip punch with your partner. This will be one ideal "Carnival of Joy." All this will come true March 24, when Weber college will celebrate its first Fiesta, "The Mardi Gras," sponsored by Fren-isti fraternity.
