Show Annex the Arid West. By Secy. Natl. Irrigation Assn. Commercial expansion has been the cry of the declining hours of the 19th century. We have been, and are today, reaching out into the markets of the Orient for new fields to sell our manufactures manu-factures and are sending men into every part of the world to find more trade for the products of American handiwork. Yet within our midst is an empire capable of sustaining a -vast population and furnishing a market comprising the best class of buyers in the world; and all practically at the doors of our factories. Arid America stands ready to be annexed. She suggests sug-gests no foreign complications nor embarrasments, no treaties, no army. She is of us, and if she is asked she will gladly come. |
