County News: With a feeling of love and Thankfulness Thankful-ness to you I pen thi-w few lines to acquaint those of my friends and neigh-Ixirin neigh-Ixirin ;')!d Dixie", of my whereabouts. Having- been called as an embassador of truth to till h mission in the Southern South-ern States. I bade fare-well to home and loved ones on the loth of September. 1;)9. After traveling two days 1 lauded in Salt Lake city where I visited visit-ed some of my relatives and friends until the 20th of the same month. Leaving Salt Lake city on the 21st, by the O. S. L. Ry., I traveled towards the "'land of birds and flowers." While traveling on the train, ray mind wandered back to the time when the noble pioneers had crossed the then dry and barren plains in search of a home, and where they could serve God according to the dictates of their own coucience: and under the guidance of their noble leader entered the valley val-ley of the Great Salt Lake, which was then but a parched and barren desert that seemed to offer no support for the small and weary band who had undergone under-gone the hardships of a long and dreary inarch of over a thousand milos. I thought of the many changes and inventions in-ventions since that time, and almost exclaimed aloud, "God moves in a mysterious mys-terious way His wonders to perform." After a pleasant journey of four days we arrived in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where we met some of the elders and friends. At the office we obtained our necessary equipments and were assigned assign-ed to our fields of labor, Elder E. Morgan and myself were assigned to the Georgia conference. We left Chattanooga Chat-tanooga on the night of the 25th, and arrived at Milledgeville, Baldwin county, on the 26th. Here we met elders James S. Castleton and Fred Cliristensen. Elder Morgan and Chris-tensen Chris-tensen left us and went to Housten county. Elder Castleton and I labored in Baldwiti county until the 12th of November, when Elder Castleton was called to labor in Macon city. I then labored with Elder Cosbridge until we went to conference which was held in Macon city January 27th and 28th. AH the elders of the Georgia conference were present, also Pres. Ben E. Rich, making thirty-eight of us in all. We were in conference two days, Saturday and Sunday, and on Monday we, that is the elders, met in council meeting where we received some good instructions instruc-tions pertaining to our labors, and were assigned to new fields. Elder S. J. Ward and I were assigned to Washington county, where we labored labor-ed together until the 7th of April, when most of the elders v? ere moved north for the summer months, as it is the custom to move as far north as possible during the hot weather. Elder James E, King and I were then assigned as-signed to labor together, but to remain in the southern part and revisit friends in the counties of Washington, Johnson John-son and Montgomery, where we have been laboring until the present time. We have many frjends and some that are investigating our message. The cause of truth is spreading in this part of the vineyard; altho we meet opposition opposi-tion and persecution, yet we rejoice and say, "Onward gallant soldiers of the cross, onward noble band; We soon shall gain the victory, and crowns from an imperial hand." I am enjoying my mission very much, and hope I may be able to fill an honorable honor-able one and return home to you again. I always pray for your success and prosperity. I am grateful for The News, which comes to hand promptly and brings with it words of encouragement encourage-ment and love. Elder George Morris, Wrightsville, Georgia. i - |
