Show PRESIDENT KRUGER'S METHODS liesents a Keenest From the American Consul. Washington. Nov. 1!). At the request re-quest of the llritish government the state department cabled to Consul Mac-rum Mac-rum at Pretoria, asking if the Transvaal Trans-vaal government would permit him to take charge of money sent by England to procure comforts for the British prisoners of war. Upon transmitting the request to President Kruger, Mac-rum Mac-rum was refused curtly and told that arrangements respecting prisoners must be made through the general in the held. Although anxious for news from South Africa, this government has heard nothing from Consul Macrum for six days. It is believed here that the Transvaal Trans-vaal government will not permit him to send news in an open dispatch, nor allow him to use a cipher. |
