Show TURKS MUST GO. The Powers Win Demand That Troops lie. Withdrawn From Crete. Canea, Island of Crete, Sept. 10. The admirals of the foreign powers, replying to the protests of the Cretan executive committee againstjthe recent massacre, have declared that they will recommend that their respective governments gov-ernments solve the question definitely by the removal of the Turkish troops j from the island of Crete, aud the np- pointment of a governor to be selected j by the powers. The foreign admirals have requested the powers to send a battalion each to reinforce the internal garrison. ; Djevadlik Djevad Pasha, the Turkish military commandant, says he has given the Turkish military authorities of Candia strict instructions to assist in maintaining order. He declares that the bashi-bashouks are responsible for the recent outbreaks. Twenty-one additional bodies of Christians have been discovered under smouldering ruins at Candia. |
