Show DICK BLAND DEAD. Celebrated Conpressuinn From Missouri rnssecl to the Great Heyond, Lebanon, Mo., June 17. Richard Parks Pdand, congressman from the Eighth Missouri district peacefully passed away at exactly half-past 4 o'clock Thursday morning. Tuesday night about 10 o'clock he fell into a sleep from which he never awoke. The physicians used every means in their power to arouse him, but he never regained re-gained consciousness in the slightest degree. Mr. Eland's illness began immediately immedi-ately after his return from Washington, Washing-ton, early in March. It started with an attack of la grippe, followed with a relapse. Chronic catarrh of the stomach stom-ach complicated the disease. Brain trouble came next, and he died of cere, bral congestion. For several days be-c fore his death he was partially para- y'R.P, BLAND. lyzed. His power of speech was gone and he was unable to communicate with any one. Mrs. Bland has received several dozen messages of condolence from admirers ad-mirers of her husband all over the country. The strain on Mrs. Iiland's nervous system has been very great' and her friends are alarmed at its effect. ef-fect. Mr. Bland leaves no life insurance insur-ance and dies a comparatively poor man. The funeral will be in charge of the seargeant-at-arms of the House of Representatives, Rep-resentatives, and will be conducted by Masonic lodges. Mr. Bland was a member of no church, and the ministers of all denominations de-nominations will participate in the Services. It is planned to have Colonel William J. Bryan deliver the funeral oration. The body will lie in states at the opera house for twenty-four hours. |
