Show TO RELIEVE LADYSMITH. Butler Now Within Fourteen Miles of the Beleaguered Town. London, Jan. 14. General Euller's dispatch announcing his forward movement move-ment is interpreted as meaning that he has passed around the western end of the Boer lines at Colenso and is now several miles behind them, and within fourteen miles of General White's outposts out-posts at Ladysmith. The Boers, a few days ago, had forces with guns at Springfield, where General Buller dates his dispatch. These commandes have evidently been dislodged, either by Bghting or by maneuvering, the Boers retiring across the Tugela as General Buller advances. From General Buller's dispatch, and the fact that unofficial intelligence from the seat of war has virtually ceased since Monday, the deduction is drawn that important operations are in progress, pro-gress, as he cannot move far without going against the Boer intrenchments. |
