The case that called Dr. Affleck to Cedar City was an operation, performed by Drs. Affleck and Middleton upon Mrs. John Luffkin. Mrs. Luft'kin was formerly a Miss Barron of Washington. Wagons, etc., who has been conducting the branch house for that firm at Uvada, left for Salt Lake City Tuesday to take over another department for the same firm. He is succeeded at Uvada by Warren Cox of this city. Stake Conference was held last Sunday Sun-day and Monday, the visiting brethren being Apostle Francis M. Lyman and Elder Joseph W. McMurrin, one of the first seven presidents of Seventies. The attendence at all the meetings was very large, and the Conference was much enjoyed. The visiting brethren left here Monday. O. G. and James Thornton, who are well known in the diggings of Iron county, came up from the south yesterday yes-terday and expect to remain in the city several days. The gentlemen are developing de-veloping a promising group of copper claims in the vicinity of Pinto mountain, moun-tain, and iudsriusr from the samples of ore they exhibited, there is no question about the quality, and they say there is no doubt as to the quantity. We join in the general congratulations Deseret News. The editor of the Washington County News congratulates his brother, the editor of the Paris, Idaho, Post, on the addition to his family. The News is in receipt of a copy of "The History of the Utah Volunteers in the Spanish-American War, and in the Philippine Islands." It is a complete com-plete history of all the military organizations organiz-ations it; which Utah men served, with incidents of camp life, biographical sketches of otiicers and men engaged in the service, etc. W.
