Ox-g-en was frequently administered the dying man during the afternoon in an effort to keep him alive until his brother's arrival, but in vain. For, by the cruel irony of fate, the train on which Justus Goebel was traveling to Frankfort was delayed several houra from various causas, and when Mr. Goebel finally arrived it was only to learn that his brother was dead. Among bitter partisans of both parties deep grief is manifested, and already a movement has been started to erect a fitting monument for Mr. Goebel's memory on the spot in the state-house grounds where he was shot. |
