Show BUTTE MINING LITIGATION. Suit Commenced That Will Remit In Closing- Three Mines. ) Butte, Mont., Dec. 23. The 82,000,000 damage and injunction suit brought yesterday by Burdette O'Connor against the Anaconda and Washoe Copper j companies, turns out to be a mobt I astounding feature of the bitter litiga-i litiga-i tion going on between the Montana ! Ore Purchasing company and the Amalgamated companies. The court is asked to restrain the defendants from mining on veins alleged to have their apexes in a location called the Copper Trust. No suspicion of the real nature of the action can be gathered from the complaint itself, notwithstanding the extraordinary amount of damages demanded. de-manded. The fact is, however, that it is no less a matter than an effort to close down the Anaconda, St. Lawrence Law-rence and Never Sweat mines. A temporary restraining order was issued by Judg2 Clancy, and an order to show cause why an injunction should not be granted, put over for hearing until January 20th. The restraining re-straining order was served to-day, and it was afterward stated that it would necessitate the closing of the three mines. The Copper Trust claim, which O'Connor pretends to be the owner of, is nothing less than a location on top of the St. Lawrence, Anaconda and Never Sweat lode claims, and over all of the first named and the greater part of the other two. |
