The baptists so we were told by this man, believe that John the Baptist came and enected the plan of salvation: Jesus followed, and being baptised into tiie church which John had set up, went forth and perfected the same; so the only true name of the church is "Baptist,'' being organized by John. We ate dinner yesterday with a family of good 'people. While the lady was preparing the meal of corn bread and bacon, she become enthused, and raising her hands said: "Bless God! I know I'm saved; if Christ was to come on earth today I know He would say you've got a home in Heaven." She preached us quite a sermon, after which tho corn bread tasted very good, and we went on our way rejoicing. Last night we were at our place of meeting, the school house; a bright fire burned in tho old fireplace, and a good number of the people came to hear us, seemingly seem-ingly very much interested m what was said, with a few exceptions. After closing, and just as we wore leaving, meeting, having appointed the night following for another, a citizen exclaimed: ex-claimed: "You fellows can give us the room tomorrow night, we don't want any more of your doctrine," at the same time confirming his words with an oath, and three others joined him. We paid very little attention to them, and went to stay with a friend for the night. If it is the Lord's will for us to continue con-tinue His work in this locality, no set. of unprincipled characters can prevent us; if not, His will, not ours be done. We have many kind friends, and such experiences as these strengthen our faith. Elder W. G. Miles, Jr. Duck Run, Whitley Co., Kentucky. |
