Show CASPER obituary born aug 1 1835 in mulheim ct churgan Th switzerland died dec 8 1917 at the ige of 82 he was one of the first pioneers to the dixie country was in the country four years before hemp called to settle in santa chri his parents died when he iva about 15 years of age he was the youngest of a large family after his parents had passed away his birth was no longer home to him he traveled 50 miles on foot to zurich where he had a brother and sisters he found work in a silk and wool bictory where he worked for a year after which hp went and learned the joiner and cabinet trade for three years during that time he got acquainted with some mormon elders and in due time he wag baptized into the church of jesus christ of latter day saints in aug 1854 soon at ter he received the priesthood and was ordained a teacher winch office he held for many years he then said good ave to old switzerland and emigrated to utah A part of the tedious journey of 1 miles from ioa to salt lake was made by hand carts he arrived in sept 1857 well worn out from the hardships on the plains times were very hard in utah indians bothered very much also johnsons army the settlers had to be stationed all around to keep guard in 1858 indians troubled in every way work was very hard to get in 1861 he was called by briehn in young to open a mission in south ern utah which is now called dixie where he made his home for over 50 vears went on a mission to europe in 1888 traveling in switzerland and germany wa ward teacher for 30 years under bishops bunker and ensign a sun day school teacher for 15 years and for 12 years was president of the elders quorum he held the office of a school trustee for several years he was a carpenter and farmer he is survived by a wife and 10 children 44 grandchildren 26 great grandchildren he was a kind bus band and a good father HARVEY A PACE funeral services for harvey A pace were held at the ward meet me hause in new harmony dec 7 1917 albert F malbis first councilor to bishop henry A pace presiding appropriate music was furnished by the ward choir which rendered resting now from care and sorrow sweet hour of prayer favorite selections of the decease ed and ive heard of a beautiful city solo by elder joeph W prince assisted by the choir time ly remarks were made by elders john W platt of and he iliah duffin of new harmony wh eulogized the life of the departed opened by elder orren kel ey and closed by elder william P taylor the grave being dedicated by elder albert F malhis the subject of this sketch was horn near terin oct 12 1818 being the third son of william pace and margaret nichols As a lad of fifteen he crossed lie plains nith his parents in bicham youngs company driving stock the entire distance he located at provo from which leiyn he moved to spanish fork in 1851 his early manhood was spent in elwe two towns which afterward developed devel ped into populous cities here he was constantly engaged in de eloping spanish fork assisting to utah and protecting he resident citizens against the de of the indians led by walker and others he married ann elizabeth redd in spanish fork aug 28 1853 bv whom he had ten children four of whom survive him in 1861 he with hid family moved to southern utah i in new harmony washington co here also he met suan E keel whom he married in salt lake city july 11 1870 by whom he had four children two of whom survive him his life aas ever and a monument of inspiration to those with eliom he came in contact or vh had the pleasure of associating with him quiet and unassuming in his vaya vet commanding respect from all onerous beyond a doubt his entire life was devoted to the uplifting of his home community he held many positions of both civil and ecclesiastical he acted for m dinv inv years is councilor to the bishop of the ward and as bunei of the sunday school of kw harcom he is survived hy a numerous po who ft ill idolize his meiji ory and rise up and call him blessed besides liis wife his descendents consist of fourteen children of whom only six are living who pre as follows john james A leal B nanc E and henry A his grandchildren total fifty nine and his great grandchildren thirty tight |
