Show WE WILL HAVE FAIR enthusiastic meeting held thursday night some rousing speeches favoring fair made A very enthusiastic meeting vas held at the L beum last thursday evening to hear the reports on last county fair elect officers and de cido if a fair be held this car the meeting was not well attended hut what it lacked in numbers was mide up in enthusiasm the greatest possible interest being shown in the proceedings francis L daggett the president of the washington county fair association occupied the chair the report of the fair of 1907 read by the secretary david H morris showed a balance from the fair of 1906 of cash received 1277 08 merchandise total cash 1358 52 total merchandise the total expenditures were cash 1274 89 merchandise 50 balance on hand cash merchandise 62 00 the resources were shown to be cash 83 63 merchandise 62 00 phonograph 76 00 seats on square 39 89 premiums bield over 62 00 sheds on squire 00 a total of 52 mayor francis L daggatt was elected president and divid R forsha secretary of alio association mr daggett made a neat little speech in he promised to do all in his power to malre the fair a success mr forsha was not present owing to illness some very interesting talks were made by lion thomas judd pres ident of alie state board of horticulture joseph ent of alie state experiment farm samuel miles jr G F whitehead and othere who all spoke v stron gl in favor of a fair and on the question being put to the meeting it was carried unanimously in the affirmative some cay strong points were made by mr judd in his talk referring to the quality of utah fruit where proper carp and attention is given to growing it ho said thit at the horticultural show which lie attended at sacramento california at which a largo display of utah fruit was made luther burbank the wizard who has given new varieties of fruits and vegetables particularly admired the peaches and said they were the best he ever saw and mr Burban kvas so impressed by the fai showing of the rutih peaches that lie returned again at and admire them many peaches were grown in washington county mr judd also gave figures to prove that horticulture properly pursued in washington county was a very profitable business even with markets and bad roads mr aykui promised to macca display from the state experiment farm alie other speakers spoke very entertainingly and encouragingly and if the fame spirit per alie fault in the various settlements as was manifested althie meeting alie fair of 1908 will be a record breaker |
