Show Elks Stake Formal Flag Raising Ceremony Here Cedar and St. George Members Join To Present Unusual Program On Monday evening, June 15, the people of St. George had their first opportunity to witness a formal flag ceremony as presented by the combined Elks of Cedar City and St. George registered as B.P.O.E. 1556. The Cedar City visitors were accompanied to St. George by the Cedar high school band who made a demonstration march through the business district dist-rict of the city before going to the park where the ceremony was staged in full regalia before hundreds hun-dreds of onlookers. Officiating were Exalted Ruler Clarence Lamoreaux; acting leading lead-ing knight, Ralph Adams; Loyal Knight, D. J. McMurphy; Lecturing Lectur-ing Knight, Dr. L. W. McGregor; reader, Ernest Macfarlane; guest speaker, Mayor D. C. Watson, with response by Reuben Shay of Cedar City. In charge of the eve-ing's eve-ing's program were Rex Harris, chairman, Ernest Macfarlane and Attorney Shay, all of Cedar City. Irvin Milne and a group of his center ward scouts were called on to assist. The elaborate ceremony included singing of national anthems, the history of the flag of the United States of America and demonstrations demonstra-tions of how to display the flag under all conditions and on all occasions. The Cedar High School Band furnished musical selections. It was pointed out that this program pro-gram should instill in the minds of people a desire to become more familiar with the history of this country and its flag, and at this particular time should have a deeper appeal. B.P.O.E. members include Dick Hammer, Jack Ricketts, R.' M. Reber, attorney Ellis J. Pickett, Ward Esplin, A. P. Mitchell, Dr. A. W. McGregor, Dr. L. W. McGregor Mc-Gregor and Dr. J. E. Ahlstrom. They unite with the citizens of St. George and the mayor in extending ex-tending appreciation to the members mem-bers of Cedar City and to the high school band for coming to St. George to give this patriotic ceremony. |
