Read from the ji. Book of Job; Job set a wonderful V j example. Read from Doctrine and ( I Covenants on the matter of sacrifice, . sayjtig sacrifice surely brings the i blessings of God, reciting the many sacrifices made by the early Saints. J Saturday Afternoon Pres. Geo. F. Whitehead made 5; mention of the great value of a SgSEiuf standing in the Church, and told of the promise of Pres. Lorenzo Snow i and its fulfillment. We must have faith in the promises of God and trust Him. We should be careful in sowing the seeds of faith in our children, then the blessings will come. The young also should take this to heart; many dangers lurk about our children and they should be very careful to maintain the high-' high-' est standard morally. Parents i' should know where their children are at night. Young women should never' go riding in autos with strangers strang-ers as there is great danger in this practice. Elder Sorenson made mention of the present hard times and said we rwere being tried. Spoke of how precious our children are and how blessed are those who have many. We are living in dangerous times; urged all to marry as they should iu D the temples, and not procrastinate. Elder D. H. Morris stated that all service required by the Lord brings blessings. The crying evil of today a"S5,B is disregard for law. We must train up our children in the work of the Lord at home and not leave this for the organiations. Many children have very little respect for their par- " ents; many complain of the work of the officers of the law. We should sustain and honor the law. We should uphold the prohibition law. Elder Geo. F. Richards made mention men-tion of the M. I. A-jJan, and quoted quot-ed from Ecci,-- - s, "As a man thinketh so- i: man may be judged by thoughts. We should S ' bo serious regarding serious things, f Parents are warned that marriage is $ a protection against secret vices; J ": -" i early marriage; marriage of H ,ht kind will bring glory and v S exhalation; nothing compares with S I the marriage relation in benefits and ' blessings. Quoted 1st Timothy 4th chapter showing that forbidding to marry is not of God. The temple - I marriage covers all essentials of S proper marriage in the sight of God ? " and bring many great blessings H reaching into eternity. USB Sunday Forenoon Pres. Kilw. H. Snow expressed appreciation ap-preciation of the large number present, pres-ent, and made mention of the blessings bless-ings of the Lord in the settlement of Hurricane bench and causing the people to come here. Thought most of the people were clean and pure in mind and body. The Church teaches these great principles of purity and righteousness. We must cherish integrity. The power of endurance is what makes the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints so great; men and women are but children of a larger growth and need constant training. There is much crime in high places in the U. S.; the cause of these moral lapses is lack of religious faith; we need constant teaching and warning religiously; we are in great danger of falling when success is full upon us if we are not conscientiously religious; we need restraint; liberty does not altogether remove restraint we need character; we have become a great nation through character. Elder W. G. Hopkins made mention men-tion of the Articles of Faith and what they stood for, and quoted other oth-er authorities in support. If we believe the Book of Mormon we will also believe the Bible, said the speaker. speak-er. Elder Richards quoted from Matthew Mat-thew 2 5 regarding those who serve God. There are two great incentives for doing good, reward and punishment. punish-ment. To know God is life eternal; we must be one with God and partake par-take of His blessings; we must love God and man; on these commandments command-ments hang all the law; we owe love to God at all times; we must love our neighbor; we must cultivate love by rendering unselfish service. Peace is a great blessing from God; it is hell and damnation to have a guilty conscience. Spoke of the great blessing of Scout work. We should be anxious about our Father's business; let us learn the lesson to help one another. There are two spirits, the good and the bad; listen to the good spirit but never to the bad; we by evil cause God pain) guard the tongue and say nothing amiss. Sunday Afternoon Elder Ferninand Stucki of Santa Clara gave a report of his mission in the Northern States, from where he recently returned. The Lord had taken care of him and he had enjoyed enjoy-ed his mission. Elder David H. Cannon spoke of the Prophet Samuel and told of his work with Saul in the matter of obedience. We all should learn obedience and God will open the way to us. Told of seeing the Prophet Joseph, some of his sayings, his death, etc. The speaker also told of the trials the people went through, and the fulfillment of prophecies made by leaders of the Church. Made mention of the faith of the witnesses wit-nesses to the Book of Mormon; the priesthood was received by Joseph Smith from heavenly messengers. The men who preside over this Church are men of God. Bishop Bradshaw said he very much appreciated the conference being be-ing held here. Bore a strong testimony testi-mony of the gospel. Elder Richards commended the testimony of President Cannon to the earnest consideration of all present. Many lacked faith. Quoted from Paul regarding the power of God and its saving qualities. God planned all the gospel steps of man, and the earth; we were there and assisted. Quoted Revelations, 13 th chapter. Adam at the first rendered obedience. Quoted from 15th chapter 1st Corinthians, Cor-inthians, on the atonement; though He were a son, yet learned He obedience. obed-ience. The gospel is the law by which all men are to be judged; a knowledge of the gospel must come to all men; the dead must have their work done lor them as the Lord has taught. Explained eternal life: We had a spirit existanoe and were destined to go on and increase throughout eternity if we do our duty here before God and man. Do we understand these things? Men cannot understand these things at present; the world is woefully in the dark today. We must make all wrongs right; we must be forgiving to all if we wish forgiveness; we must sacrifice and receive the priesthood priest-hood or we cannot be saved. Many reject Mormonism because of one thing that seems unrighteous in some one; because of our disobedience we many times do harm to investigators. Made mention of the one plan only of salvation, quoting Paul. We are the sons of God. Explained the pre-existant pre-existant state of man; the mysteries of the kindgom are unfolded to men; we should count ourselves highly honored and greatly blessed in these saving principles of the gospel. |
