Show I Mr. and Mrs. Bert Covington lett I Sunday for Salt Lake City. Mrs. Will Squire and family left this morning for Salt Lake City. Jacob Frei was a business visitor here from Santa Clara last Saturday. Jos. T. Atkin, Jr., returned Wed-! Wed-! nesday from Enterprise to spend the ! Fourth. Miss Dorothy Kemp is a new employee em-ployee at the St. George Cafe and Bakery. W. A. Nelson left Tuesday for Salt Lake to bring Mrs. Nelson and his son James home. ' Miss Orpha Morris returned yes- terday from Salt Lake where she spent her vacation. Miss Edith Harris returned last night from Provo where she had been for some time. Miss Jennie Nelson returned Sunday Sun-day from Salt Lake City, where she had been spending a vacation. Mrs. Jennie Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Morton Morris left Wednesday for Los Angeles, Cal., for an outing. Miss Roma Church was the successful suc-cessful contestant for goddess of liberty for the Fourth of July celebration. celeb-ration. Mrs. Robert Worthen and small son, Dan left Sunday for northern points, expecting to be gone a month, visiting. Miss Bessie Thurston of this city has the honor of being selected to dance the annual flag dance at the Fourth of July celebration at Provo. There was a flood in the river last night, showing that rains had fallen in the upper stretches. Some rain fell from Pintura to Bloomington, missing St. George. Miss Mary Whitehurst, the head nurse at the local hospital, left Wednesday Wed-nesday for Los Angeles, Cal., to spend her vacation. She was accompanied by Miss Karma McGregor. Governor Mabey has appointed Sheriff Wilford Goff a delegate to the National Conference of Juvenile Agencies, to be held at Salt Lake City, August 15th to 21st inclusive. The platform of the Republican National party will be found in this issue. Later we will publish the platform of the Democratic party. Our readers should go through these thoroughly. Mr. and Mrs. William Prince and family, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Church, and some of the younger members of Warren Cox's family left Monday for Pine Valley, intending to spend some time at that delightful resort. A dance was given Monday night at Watson's Pavilion for Lorin Miles, who left Wednesday morning on a mission to California. A short program pro-gram was given. The best wishes of a host of friends go with Mr. Miles. The Mission Cafe ODened for busi ness Tuesday morning with Brigham Randall in charge. The new cafe is located just west of The News office and is a branch of the-St. George Cafe and Bakery. It is well stocked and equipped to give good service. Another An-other cafe, recently built by George Berry will open up on the Fourth; it is located east of The News office. Editor and Mrs. John R. Wallis, their eldest daughter, Miss Lillian, and Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Snow intend leaving tomorrow morning for Richfield, Rich-field, Panguitch and Bryce Canyon to attend the Utah State Editorial Association convention, and expect : to return the following Wednesday night. The editor's son, Archie, will have charge of the office during our absence, and Mrs. Archie Wallis will take Miss Wallis' place at the linotype. |
