Show 'Unnecessary Fears' Is Subject Discussed At Nursery School Meet By ELEANOR GIBBONS "Unnecessary Fears," was the discussion dis-cussion led by Mrs. Verna Cottam, at the meeting of the Nursery school parents' class Monday evening. eve-ning. The lesson brought out the fact that many fears in adult life are carry-overs from childhood. These fears are sometimes instilled in-stilled into the children uncons-iously uncons-iously by parents who are trying in every way to do a first-class job. Concerning war and its fears, it is not what you tell your children child-ren but how you tell it. Make what you have to say simple and brief. Don't go into a dozen or so remote possibilities. A "hush-hush" "hush-hush" atmosphere or a feeling that their own parents are jittery and the feeling that something is being hidden from them are detrimental detri-mental to the child's feelings of security. It is true little children cannot understand what the war is about, yet neither should we try to avoid the subject altogether. Too much of an assumed bravado grimly pretending that life moves on in the same old way may be emotionally unhealthy. Let us remember to go about our business quietly and to find extra strength and give it. Let's not get so busy with war that we neglect the emotional needs of our family. All evidence points to this that the feeling of being loved gives a sense of safety, of peace and security. |
