Show 1 Seen and Heard 'Round the Town By EDGAR Waurine Whipple dropped in at the News office the other day and opened the conversation with: "I want to put an ad in your paper, hut I don't suppose I will get any results from it". Of course, I assured her that News ads always bought results. However, when I saw what she was advertising for, r had to admit that it might be tieyond the ability of even a News ad . . . She's advertising for a. bicycle. Tlm-n-Tliat The condition of the weather has been a good old standby for .a conversation opener down thru the centuries. At the present, though it looks like it might take a back scat for, "How's your tires?" . . . With that 10 reduction in rates going into effect ef-fect on the City Power, citizens will be demanding they be "hooked "hook-ed up first" . . These warm days remind us that it won't be long before we have to turn on the coolers. . . . Just a hint Jocal dealers assure me that when present slocks of coolers are gone there won't be any more for the duration. . . . The way our IMxic students walked off with the honors up at Cedar gives one a thrill of pride in their ability. Evidently our students must have ability and the best of instruction. Boy! Are there a lot of dandelions around this year in the lawns? If we are able to have the fine lawns that the people of the city have been gradually building up to, something will have to be done about the dandelion dande-lion situation. The courthouse lawn is almost beyond the point of elminating them now. . . . I notice that George E. Prince, who has been postmaster in New Harmony for the past 30 years, is now resigning. That's a long time to hold any job, showing that Mr. Prince must have done a good job. Jlafen Praise Typhoons , Coach Lee Hafen dropped in at -the office for a few minutes chat the other morning. He was high in his praise for the Hurricane high team. He stated that they looked mighty good at the tournament tourna-ment and that Coach Walter Brooks handled his men very fine. He declared that if Walt hadn't clone such a good job that Hurricane Hurri-cane would have surely lost the first game, after Langston went out. Civil Air Patrol J Twenty-three fellows turned out : for drill under Carl Moss on last i Friday night. The fellows seem, quite enthused over their train- j ing and declare that Carl is a, good instructor. Latest recruits i included Dr. M. O. Hutchings. Dr. J. E. Ahlstrom, E. N. (Dick) j Hammer, Mack Crandall and Brown Hail. Officers included Carl Moss, commander; O. J. Brockbank, first sergeant; C. F. Jensen, platoon guide; M. J. Miles, Carl Hutchings and Archie Wallis, corporals. Anyone else interested in this training is asked to come out and get in on it each Friday night in the Recreation hall. About You Wouldn't this old world be better. If folks we meet would say; I know something good about you. And treat you that way? Wouldn't it be fine and dandy, If each handclasp warm and true, . Carried with it the assurance, I know something good about you? Wouldn't life be much more happy, If the good, that is in all of us, Was the only thing about us, That folks bothered to recall? Wouldn't life be much more happy If we praised the good we see, For there is such a lot of goodness, In the worst of you and me? Wouldn't it be fine to practice, That fine way of thinking, too, You know something good about me, I know something good about you? Author Unknown. |
