Show NEW HARMONY Mrs. O. Hammond Reporter Cpl. and Mrs. Louis Smith of Cedar City were visiting at the home of Mrs. Smith's mother, Mrs. M O. Woolsey. Cpl. Smith is stationed at Camp Forest, Term.; and is home on a nine-day furlough. Ferrel Kelsey of New Harmony was home on a ten-day furlough. He left on the evening of July 23rd for Fort Douglas. Miss Camilla Pace, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ashby Pace is home from her work at Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Pace went by train Thursday to Salt Lake City to see her sister, Bertha Blooem, who is home on a furlough. fur-lough. She joined the WAACS in March. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Engle-1 Engle-1 stead and daughters returned home from Boulder City last Thursday. Mr. Englestead has employment there but the family will stay here for the present. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Prince and family of Las Vegas were guests of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Prince over the Pioneer day holiday. Mr. and Mrs. Teullis and family of Long Beach, Calif., spent several sev-eral days here as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Cannon Huntsman and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Grant. While here, the families toured the southern Utah parks. Pioneer Day Program Our Pioneer day was fittingly celebrated here Saturday. Meeting Meet-ing was held at the Blue Bird pavilion at ten in the morning with George F. Prince in charge. Miss Norma Schmutz was queen of 1943 and Reba Woodbury as a majorette and Pearl Schmutz as flagbearfer, were her attendants. Mrs. Viola W. Kelsey was the queen of 1847 with her attendants, attend-ants, Berdean Hall and Dorothy Prince as flower girls and Darrel Prince a s crown-bearer. The crowning ceremony was performed by Bishop Lyle Prince. i Each queen gave an original poem comparing the problems of the pioneer women with the problems prob-lems the women of today face. Other numbers included a re-told story by Beulah, Farnsworth; trumpet duet, William and Chas. Schmutz; oration, Cannon Huntsman; Hunts-man; "Washing Day", was acted out by several of our young folks. Mrs. Lula Mathis was in charge of this number. She also accompanied all of. the musical numbers. The sports committee sponsored an enjoyable program for the children. Mrs. Jenette Woolsey and son, David Beverly and Dona, spent the 24th on Cedar Mountain. Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Hall received word from Pioche, of the death of a nephew, Edward Hackett, who was drowned. No particulars were given. |
