Show Lions Report Rodeo Entertainment Best Held Here Miss Betty Jo Morris On Hotel Liberty Float Wins 1st In Beauty Parade Complete success marked the Lions 10th Annual Round-up and Night Rodeo held at the St. George ball park, Friday and Saturday, Sat-urday, Sept. 8 and 9, report the publicity committee. Crowds were never better and the beauty parade par-ade Saturday night was one of the biggest and best of the entire en-tire ten years. Liberty Hotel Float Wins First Miss Betty Jo Morris in the basket of roses on the Liberty hotel float walked off with the $25.00 war bond as first place ! beauty. Maree Higbee, as the Indian In-dian girl on the B.-P. W. float f won second place with $15.00 in war stamps, and Miss Catherine Carter on the Big Hand Cafe float took third place with $10.00 in war stamps. J Parade chairman Howard Judd expresses special appreciation for the Lions for the hearty cooperation cooper-ation given this feature of the Round-up by the business houses. Every float was deserving of a prize and the line-up gave the judges a real problem in picking the winners. Rodeo events brought constant cheering from the crowds and there was fine work reported on the part of riders and ropers. The first night's events gave Max 'Hafen, first; Josh Welsh and Wilson Wil-son Stewart, tying for second and third in the calf roping. Vernon Bunker and Max Hafen took first; Walter Shelley and Melvin Whipple, Whip-ple, second; and Lee Hafen and Clyde McQuaid, third in team" Lying. Ly-ing. Clyde McQuaid and Walter Shelley took first in wild cow milking; Dell Stewart and Cornell Stewart, second; and Orlin and Vern Frehner, third. Second Night's Winners On the second night Buck Ack-ley Ack-ley took first place; Cornell Stewart, Stew-art, second place; and Orlin Ferh-ner, Ferh-ner, third place, in calf roping. John Atkin and Bert Truman were first on the team tying; Sherman Shelley and Merlin Bundy, second; and Wilson Stewart Stew-art and Ronald Stewart, third. Karl and Paul Hafen were first in the wild cow milking; Milo Blake and Lewis Bowler, second; and Sherman Shelley and Merlin Bundy, third. On both nights there, were many entries for both wild steer and bronc riding, but the livestock live-stock was prety tough and no records were set. However, this Phase of the rodeo furnished a lot of entertainment. The Lions extend hearty appreciation ap-preciation to all who contributed toward making this tenth annual round-up and rodeo a big two-day celebration, and especially to the Washington brass band which Participated in events both nights say Lee Weibel, publicity chairman chair-man and Ez McArthur, general chairman. |
