Show Dixie High Wins Three of Four Practice Games College Disbands for Xmas Holidays; High To Play In Local Tourney The Dixie high basketball team won two of three practice games played last week end. Friday afternoon the boys trimmed trim-med Milford 42-25, with the second sec-ond string playing half the game. The boys played their usual fast style, and the Milford lads could not get their defense set up in time to stop scoring plays. Friday evening a rangy Beaver quintet took an early lead and held it, with one exception, to the end, winning out 30-29. Late in the last quarter the Flyers led by two points, but another basket by Beaver tied the score, and a foul point was the deciding margin. The enthusiasm of the Beaver fans was outstanding in this game, and there was so much confusion when the final gun went off that the teams did not hear. The boys tried to continue the game, while the fans swarmed the floor as happy and excited as if it were a state championship champion-ship encounter. It was a great game for Beaver. Saturday at noon the Lincoln county high from Panaca lost to the Flyers on the local floor. The Flyers won 33-7, with the second string playing half the game. The game with Beaver scheduled sched-uled here for Wednesday night was cancelled by the Beaver of ficials. No ga!:;es are scheduled for either Dixie team until some time in January. The college team will disband for the holidays, holi-days, but the high boys will enter a team in the local tourney. |
