Show DIXIE CARNIVAL WAS A CflEff SUCCESS The Dixie Mid-winter Carnival which closed last Friday was the best in its history. It was a big success from every point of view, and the. Dixie Carnival company is to be congratulated con-gratulated on this return for their untiring efforts. There was a bigger big-ger attendance than ever before, there were many fine horses, and the weather could not have been better had it been ordered for the occasion. We gave the results of the racing on the 26 ult. in our issue of the 27th. The first run last Thursday was a 330 yards race; it was won by Slippers (Higbee owner) in 19 seconds, sec-onds, Dime taking second place. The five-eights mile race was won by Wildman (Mecham owner) 1:612. Glen Roe coming in second. The half-mile was won by Cruse (Mackleprang owner) in 51V2 seconds; sec-onds; Goldie second. Three-eighths mile, won by Corn-cutter Corn-cutter (Higbee owner) ; Miss Holt second. Friday's Races The 760 yards race was won by Goldie (Case owner) in 45 15 seconds; sec-onds; Corncutter second. The one and one-half miles novelty race was run by strings of horses owned by Higbee and Ingle' s respectively, respec-tively, Ingle's string winning. Half-mile race, won by Cruse (Mackleprang owner) in 1:36 seconds; sec-onds; Slippers second. Half-mile, Andy-Andy (Higbee owner) first; Red Cloud second. There were several matched races, particulars of which our reporter did not get. . |
