Show Y i In J. BOTT' Stat Commander W. B. Mathis Re-Elected For Three-Year Term As Water Users Director Prospects for the early realization realiza-tion of the Virgin River and Santa Clara Water Storage projects pro-jects look more favorable now than ever . before, asserted Wallace Wal-lace B. Mathis of St. George Saturday, Sat-urday, on his return from Salt Lake City where he attended the annual meeting of the Utah Water Users Association Sept. 19 to 21 inclusive. Sessions of the Water Users conference were held in the Governor's Gov-ernor's Board Room at tne State Capitol, with every county in the state being well represented. Among the major items covered were the proposed post-war storage stor-age projects of the Rio Virgin I and Santa Clara. "To date, the feasibility of these projects has been questioned because be-cause no hope was seen for the pay off within the alloted forty year period of the construction costs from the Agricultural returs alone, although largely increased acreage would be brought under cultivation. Surveys and estimates made by the reclamation engineers indicated indicat-ed that on a strictly agricultural basis the costs would be prohibitive, pro-hibitive, or that the pay off could not be made within the forty year period. Now, however, the plan is to pool the power on all available projects, with the idea of the power paying off the costs of construction of these two projects, except for the canals, laterals, and unit divisions. Viewed from this angle, greater hope than ever before is seen for early activity on these two major Utah water storage projects. "says Mr. Mathis. Elected in September, 1944, to serve for one year as member of the Board of Directors of the Water Users Association, Mr. Mathis was this year re-elected to serve for the three year term, representing the Colorado River Drainage in Utah. |
