Show Businessmen Organize To Present Information On City Power Project The Citizens Committee of St. George, a group composed of public-minded citizens having organized organ-ized for the purpose of giving the people vital information relative to the issue being voted, May 6th, 1941 offers the following points for due consideration and analysis by the voters of St. George: 1. The issue is whether to direct di-rect the city to proceed with the Bletzacker-Burton proposal, and not whether we are opposed to a municipal plant,' or whether we favor a new franchise to the power company. 2. We are just as concerned over'the welfare of the city as the sponsors of the Bletzacker-Burton Bletzacker-Burton proposal. 3. The times are too uncertain to go in debt another $300,000 principal and $122,000 interest at this time. 4. We believe the City Council has acted too hastily in getting tied up with the Bletzacker- Burton Bur-ton proposal. 5. We have no assurance of lower rates if the proposal is adopted. 6. Even though the bonds are revenue bonds, the bondholders can charge rates sufficient to pay all expenses, depreciation, and principal and interest on the bonds, and the city would have the right to tax us for street lights. 7. Diesel power is expensive. An unbiased investigation of other sources of power should be made. 8. ( We believe' that with so many opportunities that may materialize ma-terialize in the near future, for us to get cheap Federal power, it would be unwise to saddle ourselves our-selves with the Bletzacker-Burton proposal, because a good share of the money spent would prove to be a total loss to the City. 9. It is not necessary to replace re-place our pipeline at this time. 10. The location of the proposed diesel plant at the City Park is undesirable. We firmly believe that the majority ma-jority of voters are not aware of the true issues being voted ' on, so we offer, that on May 6th, 1941, the voters will vote on ONE issue, whether or not, the proposed pro-posed ordinance offered by the City Council of St. George, relative rela-tive to the construction of a Municipal Mun-icipal Power Plant and Electric system, be accepted under terms specified by the proposed Ordinance: Ordi-nance: that is all vou are voting' for. If the proposed Ordinance is accepted ac-cepted by a majority of voters, then the City Council, will proceed pro-ceed with necessary arrangements arrange-ments to build the Municipal Electric Elec-tric Plant as proposed by Mr. Bletzacker. If the proposed Ordinance is rejected, re-jected, then the people have . the alternative of constructing a plant under a more acceptable plan, or of offering the Southern Utah Power Company a compromise franchise! The amount of $300,000 which is the estimated figure, necessary for the construction or cost of the plant, does not assure us that $300,000, is all that the plant cost will be future contingencies that may arise, may increase this figure out of proportion entirely. Remember that on May 6th we vote on whether to direct the City to build the proposed Bletzacker plant. We are not voting on whether we favor municipal power plants in general. We are not voting vot-ing on whether to give the power company a new franchise. If a majority vote "FOR" and we have made a mistake with the Bletzacker Bletz-acker plant, it will be too late. If a majority vote "AGAINST" the City is still free to dicker with the power company for a favorable favor-able franchise, or to consider other plans for a municipal plant. All discussions relative to this issue, conducted by the Citizens Committee, are held as open house discussions. We invite all citizens to attend these meetings.
