Show Opera Triscilla' Will Be Given Here April 23-24 Dixie College Orchestra And Chorus of 50 Voices Will Support Cast The opera, "Priscilla," will be presented by the Dixie college music department next Wednes-. day and Thursday nights, April 23 and 24. The presentations will' be in the college auditorium at 8:15 each evening. J. W. McAllister is directing the production. He is assisted by Earl J. Bleak, Orchestration; Miss Myrtle Henderson, dialog; and Miss Ruth Falck and Miss Luana Lamb, accompanists. The principles of the opera include: in-clude: Miles Standish, Clive Hart-man; Hart-man; John Alden, Junior Larkin; Priscilla, Pearl Matheson; Barbara, Bar-bara, Wilma Earl; Higgins, Rex McAllister; Resignation, Helen Pectol; Muggriage, yue rad-shaw; rad-shaw; Faith, Laura Lytle; Prudence, Prud-ence, Joyce Adams; Squanto, Jay Huntsman; and Corporal, Elmer Cox. This is a talented group that should give good account of themselves. The college orchestra and a chorus of 50 voices will capably support the principals. The story is the familiar love episode of Miles Standish and Priscilla. Pris-cilla. Standish is an ardent lover, but very bashful. John Alden is a lover on his account, but has orders from Standish to do the official courting for the latter. Priscilla is impressed, but not just in the way Standish would like it. These incidents, based on historical his-torical happenings, are developed into a very satisfactory plot. The chorus and principals have been practicing for several weeks, and the orchestra is now being added to put on the finishing touches. The opera is not new to St. George, for it was produced, under Mr. McAllister's direction, about 20 years ago. It is probably the most-talked-of production of its kind in St. George. Following presentation here, the opera will be taken to other communities. |
