Show , Santa Barbara District Sends 150 Members For Temple Excursion Headed by their district supervisors super-visors of Genealogy work, Dr. Edwin Ed-win F. Crawley and wife of Santa Marie, Calif., and more than 150 members of the Santa Barbara district of the California L.D.S. mission were St. George visitors Wednesday over Saturday on a Temple excursion. This is believed i to be the lagest excursion in numbers num-bers to come from so great a distance, dist-ance, at least to this particular Temple. A few came in 1939 and 1940, mostly adults, but this group included more than 50 juniors who performed the vicarious baptisms, bap-tisms, while the adults engaged in other Temple ordinances. Figures compiled by L. F. Pin-gree, Pin-gree, secretary of the trip, showed a total of 4010 ordinances performed per-formed in the two days, baptisms heading the list with a total of 3033, and topping the excursion record Thursday with 1710. Nine couples were married. These visitors came from the seven branches of the Santa Barbara Bar-bara district, which includes Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, Ven-tura, Oxnard, Santa Maria, Arcadia Arca-dia and Lompoc. The latter place with a membership of 39 had 45 per cent on the excursion. Dr. Crawley explained that the entire year had been spent in preparation for this trip, some coming as far as 600 miles. All expressed happiness happi-ness in the venture and although the Mesa Temple is much nearer said they plan to return at least once each year to St. George. Interesting among the group was a great-grandaughter of Brigham Young, two direct descendents of Daniel Boone, and one descendent of John Alden. This latter visitor was welcomed by Mrs. Orpha Hunt of St. George who claims the same ancestry. Ordinance workers included Lewis Christian who descends from Marquis Lafayette, La-fayette, through the John Baptist Christian line. Entertainment for the junior group included a tour of the City and visit to the McQuarrie Memorial Me-morial Hall, and on Friday evening eve-ning a special L.D.S. seminary program pro-gram directed by the class of Mrs. Naomi Carr. Community singing lead by George Bateman, a vocal duet by Melvin Terry and Helen Grace Bateman, scriptural readings, read-ings, organ music by Paul Thompson, Thomp-son, incidents related by Jay Huntsman and Ellen Barton and impromptu talks by members made (Continued on page eight) Temple Excursion (Continued from first page) i up the program.
