The Commercial Club directors lr.et last Friday and delegated Pres. J At kin and Secy. Bentley to get in touch with the various organizations , and arrange for a meeting to discuss , the matter on Sunday following, the ' afternoon meeting. )y ! At the meeting held Sunday after- " noon. Secy. W. O. Bentley of the Commercial club stated the object of the meeting was to have the several 5 organizations meet together and per fect an organization and adopt a program pro-gram for Civic Pride week, to start on Monday, March 10 and close the foiiowing Thursday, the last day ) J (Thursday) of which was to be a I Public Service dav on which it was proposed to thoroughly clean up and ' improve the public square and as far 2 as possible other public grounds. E On ihis day it was proposed to have j a public dinner on the square during I which time the band would play. Friday is College day and the school will have special activities on that day. Mr. Bentley stated that the City had ordered 40 red cedars through Geo.. Brooks, Jr., which will be used for cemetery improvement. It was the sentiment of the meeting meet-ing that all organizations should un- ' ite to make a success of the move, af- ( ter which it adjourned to S p. m. j Monday night to complete arrange- ! meats. The execution committee met Mon- j day night, and completed arrange- meats. : As finally decided, Monday, Tues- I dav and Wednesday, Mar. 10, ll'and I 12. are to be devoted to the nnprove- mentjnd 'beautifying of the home B premises and vicinity, by cleaning up ! the home ground and the sidewalks j near the premises, planting lawns j and gardens, shade trees, flowers, cleaning corrals, painting, whitewash- ; j ing, etc., etc. The'American Legion t was especially given the improve-! improve-! ment of the Public Library grounds, j Thursday, Public Service day. will be the one big day. A big barbecue j has been arranged for this day at ! 12:30 p.'m., where it is proposed to give the 400 or 500 workers a roya feed accompanied by music; every-1 every-1 thing will be provided for the big, feed, which will be given on the public pub-lic square. Work will start at S a. m. and continue con-tinue until noon and be resumed after af-ter the barbecue. As many teams, scrapers, planks and single hands ' with shovels, etc., as possible are re-! re-! quested to be present; planks will be II provided for those who have none. The question of best trees to plant was fully discussed and native ash seemed to be the favorite for this ma City. It was stated that native ash f trees could be readily obtained and arrangements have been made for ! getting a supply of these. A few elm trees are also available. Those interested in obtaining shade trees - should see Mr. Bentley or Mr. Cot- ggg, t . : T 1 1 . Wednesday wa's designated as Tree I Planting day. It is good to see the real spirit of cooperation among all the organiza- itions for this move. It augurs well for its success.
