Show Hurricane Miss Audrey Ballard Reporter Mrs. R. Grovie is visiting her parents in Kanosh. Mrs. Grant Sanders returned from a trip to Omaha, Nebr., Tuesday. Official work will begin Wednesday Wed-nesday on the CCC camp which will house approximately 300 men from Henryville. Henry Scholzen will haul all material necessary for the building of the camp and Don Hutchinsons of Cedar City has the contract for wiring it. Elementary teachers, Mrs. Claudius Hirschi, Ora Hirschi and high school teachers were invited to join the St. George Business and Professional Women's club. They attended the first meeting and plan to attend the following Wednesday meeting before making mak-ing a decision. The Misses Nicholes and Wall spent the week end with Mrs. Wayne Hinton in St. George and Sunday, they with Miss Jones and Mrs. Louise Patron of St. George, made the trip to Zion Canyon. Miss Donna Wilson is employed at the Sprouse-Reitz store in St. George. Miss Merta Wilson returned from Salt Lake City Tuesday after having spent the past week with her friend, Miss Genevieve Isom, who is training to be a nurse in the L.D.S. hospital. Mrs. Warren Hamilton and son, Wayne of Grand Canyon arrived here Saturday to spend a few days with Mrs. Hamilton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Hartley. Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Imlay, who have been here for a few days following the funeral of Mr. Imlay's sister, Mrs. Clark Benson, Ben-son, returned Sunday to Loa, Wayne county, where Mr. Imlay is employed. Mrs. Nellie Cooper of Long Beach, CaUf., with her son, Karl, arrived Sunday to visit with Mr. I and Mrs. Jesse BUss and family. Mrs. Jesse Coon and daughter, Lula, of Salt Lake City have been the guests of Mrs. Coon's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Scow for the past two weeks, leaving Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Isom and family, who have made their headquarters at the sawmill during dur-ing the summer, were here over the week end on business. Vernon Cannon of St. George was here Saturday to distribute the beet seed for fall planting amongst the farmers. Miss Leah Wood, who is em ployed at Cedar City, visited on Tuesday with her mother, Mrs. Anna J. Wood, and friends. Melvin Gibson, Salt Lake barber, bar-ber, who has been the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Gibson, for some time, returned to Salt Lake City Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. William E. Woodbury Wood-bury and family spent Friday with their son, Even, in Salt Lake City. Even was on his way to Denver to fulfill a mission. Navajo Lake was the scene of a week end fishing outing for Mr. and Mrs. George Stevens. Miss La Priel Morrill of Wayne county returned Sunday from a prolonged visit with Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Adams and family. Hurricane Legionaires held their closing of the season open-air open-air dance Friday night, but because be-cause of the small attendance closed early. ivir. ana mrs. Mrs. Heber Hardy is the guest of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Graff. James J. Jennings spent Friday and Saturday at his ranch in Arizona. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wright and daughter, La Verd, returned Sunday from a prolonged visit in Tremonton with their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Pierce. Mrs. Mertle Reeves returned to her home in CaUfornia after a week's visit with her mother, Mrs. AdeUne Cripps. A number of our stake mutual board members attended a meeting meet-ing Sunday evening at Virgin, after which Bobbie Dean entertained enter-tained them with a melon feast. Mrs. LilUan Workman entertained enter-tained her club Saturday with her home decorated in Mexican fashion, serving Mexican food to 16 guests. Mrs. Maurice Nuttall entertained entertain-ed the AUce Louise Reynolds club Friday. Mrs. Merriell P. Fawson reviewed "The Deepening Stream" Mrs. Donna Sandberg read "Life"; Barbara Tweedie and La Donna Stevens played a violin duet with Miss Dorothy Hirschi as accompanist; accom-panist; Margaret Englestead gave a reading. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Jones and family of Pioche spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Isom. Victor Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey HaU, returned from Salt Lake City Tuesday. His brother, Emerson, left for Salt Lake a short time after Victor's arrival. He win also visit with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hall for a short time as he has employment there. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hutchinson of Cedar City, with Duard Ballard, Bal-lard, who is employed there, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ballard and family. The Jolly Stitchers of Hurricane Hurri-cane met Friday at Mrs. Grace Jepson's home and made a quilt. Mr. and Mrs. Mae Naegle and two daughters, LaLene and Ber-Une, Ber-Une, visited friends here Sunday. Rex Adams, who has been employed em-ployed at Parowan, has returned to attend school. J. King left Tuesday for Idaho where he has employment. Homer Isom left for Salt Lake City Friday to receive appointment appoint-ment in the Air Corps. He is scheduled to leave for Seattle and later Honolulu. Miss Karma Hirschi of Rockville Rock-ville spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Merriel Hall. Charles Pickett of Salt Lake City spent Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. AMn Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Thelmer Strat-ton, Strat-ton, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Perry and Mrs. Ethel Thompson, with their families, all of Cedar City, were the guests of Mrs. Rose Stratton. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Wilson announce the birth of their daughter as being September 11, 1939. In Sunday afternoon's meeting the north ward reUef society members re-elected Mrs. Annie Coveningston as president with Mrs. Vera Eager, first counselor and Mrs. Violate Webb, second. Mrs. Cloe Beatty was released from the duties of first counselor counse-lor because she had too many other obUgations to fulfill. The presiding Bishopric of the church with headquarters in Salt Lake City was here Tuesday to meet the ward officers and give instructions, as well as to make budgets for the financing of the wards. Mr. and Mrs. George Berry of Kanarraville visited friends here Sunday. The south ward relief society building is under repair.' It will have a kitchen and large storage closets for storage of products made by the sisters in their meetings, as well as other properties. |
