Show Possibilities Of The Development Of Manganese Mine Told The possibilities of developing a manganese mine in Southern Utah are seen in the exploration work being done on mining property owned by H, M. Wallace and his sons.. The property is located approximately ap-proximately 12 miles east of TcKiuerville. The history of this property, (Continued on page eight) Mining Property (Continued from first page) states Mr. Wallace, dates back to the days when the pioneers first came into this country. Approximately Approxi-mately 90 years ago a Bishop Willis discovered ore, which he thought was "horn silver". He took samples of the ore to Salt Lake City and showed them to Pres. Brigham Young, who it is said, told him to "take them back and bury them in the ground as the time hadn't come for this ore to be brought forth". With this admonition, Bishop Willis is said to have made no further effort to locate the source of the ore. Mr. Wallace states that he searched for the main body of ore for a good many years before he discovered it. Recently he has been able to interest Salt Lake capitalists in the property and they sent in a mining expert (a woman) who told them where she thought the main body of the ore was. Her prediction is that there is a large body of the ore which runs to about 52 per cent ore. With the other minerals contained con-tained in the ore, it is estimated that the ore should produce approximately ap-proximately $65 a ton. At the present time men and equipment have been sent here on the property preparing to make tests to prove the possibilities possibili-ties of the mine. If it comes up to their expectations, the property will be developed. Due to the fact that there is very little of this ore in the United States, it has been imported from Russia and South America. With war conditions condi-tions hindering importation from these countries, there is a sufficient suffi-cient demand for the metal to justify exploration of the property. |
