Show William Atkin Sr. Celebrates Seventy-ninth Birthday Anniversary William Atkin Sr. marked his 79 milestone Wednesday. This was the anniversary of his granddaughter, grand-daughter, Mrs. Clarence Moss of Santa Clara. A joint birthday dinner din-ner was set at the Atkin home Wednesday evening attended by Mr. and Mrs. Dolph Hafen. and Mr. and Mrs. Moss, of Santa Clara besides family members in St. George. Mrs. Hafen is Mr. Atkin's daughter. Mr. Atkin is the elder brother of Joseph T. Atkin and the late Henry T. Atkin. Born in Ashland. Pcnn. he was the eldest child of William and Rachel Thompson Atkin. They left for Salt Lake when he was 10 weeks old arriving in the fall of 1859 The family moved to St. George in 1S6S when William was nine. lie was 12 when work began be-gan on the St. George Temple and he was employed there as one of the younger rock masons, assisting assist-ing with rock dressing from the foundation laying in 1S71 to the completion of the building in 1S77. He married first Rosetta St'ieki, by whom he had one daughter, now Mrs. Nellie Hafen. Later he ' married Eliza Bamett, February I 14, 1S93 and to them were born j seven children, five of whom arc ' living. They are: William Jr., Mrs. j Hazel Lake and Mrs. Leo G. SmiUi j all of St. George; John of Hurri-jcane; Hurri-jcane; and Roy of Pacific Grove. Calif. They have at present 31 living grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. ! The birthday dinner table had ! as a centerpiece a mammoth bas-! bas-! ket of California roses and spring j flowers, a gift from his son Rr land wife, of Pacific Groe. |
